MIKE ABSALOM – Mike Absalom ORIG Vertigo LP // 6360 053 (UK, Stereo, 1971)
Happy to present this rare Vertigo Swirl UK 1st press with its elaborate 6 panel fold-out sleeve and original company poly-lined inner sleeve. The sleeve shows some signs of age but the record has been well looked after.
The non-laminated fold-out sleeve is in overall true and solid VG (Very Good) condition. The main signs of age are noticeable on the edges and corners – there is moderate rubbing to all top and bottom edges and the spine is rubbed to the point where only part of the text is legible. All 4 corners show some wear with the spine corners having rubbed through the colour. The top left corner has started to split (only slightly, around an inch in length). There is a established crease to the rear panel bottom left corner and also one to the ‘policeman’ panel. Add to this some foxing spots on most of the white parts of the sleeve and some feathering to the edges also. HOWEVER, good news is there is NO writing, no tears, no stickers and no warping or rippling – the sleeve lies perfectly flat and there are no creases to the front panel. So, overall not perfect but still strong and structurally fine. Many would grade higher than the VG I give it here.
The labels are fine – no writing, residue, staining or other nasties and only a few light spindle traces around the centre hole. Great pair of these vintage Swirls.
The vinyl is a great looking copy and I would imagine hasn’t seen much play. Visually, there are NO scratches, only a couple of faint hairlines and (only when you look close) just one or two examples of light (and I mean light!) sleeve removal scuffs. Looks very pretty with impressive shine and no embedded dirt. So many sellers on here would suggest a near mint grade but it’s not quite there so I’ll say EX+ (Excellent Plus).
IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO THROUGHOUT and plays very well. There are occasional ticks and 1 pop to Side 1 while Side 2 displayed a bit of surface static to begin with, then improved but with 3 repeated clicks on the final track. Overall though, an enjoyable and generally unimpeded listen.
Presented in its original Swirl inner in VG+ shape – all there but browned with age and the poly lining is coming loose.
No reserve.
