I will always keep my P&P prices as low as possible, and even after yet another Royal Mail price hike from April this year, I have NOT raised my prices and will never compromise on solid, safe packing that is invariably heavier than most you will get. My P&P offers probably the best value-for-money for vinyl records available, and I even will pay for full insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Label/Format: CBS – all have a matt finish. Three of the four have rough textured surfaces, one smooth (side 2). So towards the end of the decade, it was something of a lottery to what surface CBS would put on records. Over time, I have seen few that mixed both, but clearly one style or the other was par-for-the-course towards the latter part of the 1960s.

Label Conditions: All four very clean, fresh and attractive with spindle mark numbers being few to less than moderate, most of which are fine and light. The records play with lovely clean sound with little unwanted, this too on a set with quiet passages.

Cat Number: S 66216.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Brief Info: A classic live double that cemented Bloomfield’s reputation of being one of the finest exponents of blues guitar. This expansive set was recorded over three nights at the Fillmore West in San Francisco. It includes the massive talents of Carlos Santana and Elvin Bishop on guitars. The recording is quite raw but encaptures the impressive performance of this quality band, it followed in similar-style to the critically acclaimed ‘Super Sessions’ and remains one of Bloomfield’s defining albums. This a very fine UK original with two very clean solidly pressed records. The cover has a flaw with a bottom edge central split that I repaired as neatly as possible. It only really shows when viewed edge-on, that apart, a really lovely clean sleeve with all the main areas looking impressive. So not for the cover purists, but finding one much better will still prove difficult.

Cover Grade and Format: NEAR EXCELLENT: minus the bottom edge repair, I would have graded this more like Excellent(+), at least. This is a gatefold format with front and back laminate, a dedicated mono sleeve with the usual CBS style shaped gold ‘Stereo’ sticker on the back. The inside is matt, unprotected and smooth. Printed and made in England by Ernest J. Day with the ‘Patent Pending’ text, all seen near the bottom right of the back. Both the original plain unlined white inners are included.

Lamination – Front & Back: Both front and back are really impressive, the front with a beautiful artwork of the pair. The laminate both sides retains superb shine, freshness and clarity with just one very small lift near the front top right corner tip and hardly any creasing, any tiny amount present being very fine and faint. The lack of dulling or friction rubs is a major plus, both sides so impressive, on their own, they easily merit an Excellent(++) grading. Any rim impression from thie quite thick records is minuscule and barely even registers.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Any rubbing inside is very light indeed and again shows little, so all four of the major faces of this cover are in very impressive condition.

Top Edges: Some patchy, but only small chipping. Both straight and almost flush.

Bottom Edges: Here lies the only real issue on this cover: both edges had a central split, clearly from record movement almost certainly when the owner moved house a couple of times. The splits were reasonably neat and about 1.5 inches in length. These I had to repair to eliminate any risk of widening in the future and to offer the records maximum protection – this was done as neatly as almost possible. So there is enhancement on this edge, but quite honestly, this repair is only really seen when the bottom edges are viewed full-on. Little is seen or detracts when viewing the main faces normally. This flaw apart, both edges are neat and straight and the rest – the front right corner tip apart – have little else to fault.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with little wear, any burring or thickening minimal, both are guaranteed untrimmed. Both front and back have the fine exposed strip and both have barely any wear. Records entered on these edges.

Spine and Text: Solid, straight with barely any compression and folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and near parallel. All text is near perfect and unworn under the solid and clear laminate. Just the odd tiny surface chip and a small trace of peeling near the ends.

Corners: Light to moderate tip rubs with fine to very fine shape retained.

Cover Summary: A strong all-round example – but with a repair to the bottom edges. As stated above, this still an excellent looking original, the main areas still very impresisve – the front and back almost exceptional. Not an easy one to find and even with the repair, this is likely to still please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: NO GRADE: basic plain white unlined inners, but they include the ‘PATENT APPLIED FOR’ text. These have quite wide bottom edge splits, and the one-and-only original owner wrote all the details of songs and musicians on one side of both. Overall though, they are still quite neat with minimal creasing and perfect window circles. I cannot put a grade on these however due to the writing, any opinion is purely subjective.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: NEAR EXCELLENT: Two very solidly pressed with modest usage. The surfaces appear a little dulled, this most likely within the pressing itself which seems even more obvious under my bright ‘grading’ lamp. A few light, most all surface marks, but still two lovely records and sound quality is very impressive for all four sides. When viewed in normal room daylight conditions, both still look impressive. Slightly lacking the lustre compared to most records I offer and were probably lacking it right from day one in manufacture. But again, these do delivery in quality sound.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play above their visual grading with very little to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is high with a full dynamic range and very detailed sound. A live double set with quite a raw production, but the delivery of the music is still impressive and very enjoyable. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed, the odd sporadic click will rarely be avoided on such an album, here very few. And this set does have some very quiet passages. Few original copies will outperform this very early pressing significantly I feel sure. Nothing of any real note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these quality CBS records. They could prove difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

Now one of the most established sellers on Ebay and still offering the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. What you see is what you get and scanned labels will give a more accurate representation of the genuine colour than flash photography where light is variable. I cannot guarantee total accuracy for colours however but most will be very close. The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
