Description
Mike Oldfield – Platinum Michael Gordon Oldfield (born 15 May 1953, Reading, Berkshire) is an English multi-instrumentalist musician and composer, working a style that blends progressive rock, folk, ethnic or world music, classical music, electronic music, New Age, and more recently, dance. His music is often elaborate and complex in nature. He is best known for his hit 1973 album Tubular Bells, which launched Virgin Records.
This is a great playing copy of the very rare original vinyl pressing with the A1 and B1 matrix which includes the withdrawn song "Sally" on side two (see below for more info).
"Sally" was removed from the album (possibly on the orders of Richard Branson) and replaced with "Into Wonderland", sung by Wendy Roberts. Curiously though, the album covers still say "Sally" to this day. Only the very earliest pressings of the LP have "Sally" included as part of the original track listing, recordings of the song are a popular trade item with fans.
Side One: Part One: Airborne; Part Two: Platinum; Part Three: Charleston; Part Four: North Star/Platinum Finale.
Side Two: Woodhenge; Sally; Punkadiddle; I Got Rhythm.
The album is on Virgin Records, V 2141. Matrix side one: V-2141-A-1 (written). Matrix side two: V-2141-B-1 (written).
UK pressing. Stereo.
Condition: (as Record Collector's grading system. If I see a mark it will be mentioned however light/small, apart from the usual very light paper scuffs/marks - usually caused by record being removed from the inner sleeve, which appear on nearly all old records and which are only visible under strong light)
Vinyl side 1: very good (has two very visible superficial scrape/scratch marks over most of the side that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault).
Vinyl side 2: excellent (a few very light superficial marks can be seen that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault).
Cover (glossy): good (has a fair bit of corner, edge and spine wear, badly creased, not in great shape - see photos below).
Comes with the original inner sleeve in very good condition - has a few creases.
The record plays great with no jumps, skips or clicks and minimal crackle.
I have tried to give my honest opinion as to the condition. I will give a complete refund to the buyer if they are not happy with the record.

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM:
MINT: I very rarely use the mint grade. Only records that are still sealed or records that even under the strongest of lights are completely unmarked. Also covers that are unmarked/uncreased in any way and still look brand new.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
