It was released in 1992 on the 'WEA Records' label (cat. no. 4509 90608-1/ UK: WX 2002) and comes in a card picture sleeve with a white paper inner.
Mike Oldfield is a British multi-instrumentalist musician and composer, best known for his 1973 debut album, 'Tubular Bells', which became an unexpected critical and commercial success. It effectively launched the 'Virgin Records' label for Richard Branson, and was used in the UK horror film The Exorcist, going on to sell nearly 3 million copies. Though primarily a guitarist, Oldfield is known for playing a range of instruments, which includes keyboards and percussion, and doing vocals. He has adopted a range of musical styles throughout his career, including progressive rock, world, folk, classical, electronic, ambient and new age music.
To date, Mike Oldfield has released 26 studio albums, with nine that have reached the UK Top 10. They include 'Hergest Ridge', 'Ommadawn', 'Five Miles Out', 'Crises' and 'Music Of The Spheres'. His many singles have included guest vocalists such as Maggie Reilly, Roger Chapman (Family), Jon Anderson (Yes), Kevin Ayers (Soft Machine) and Bonnie Tyler, with hits like 'Porsmouth', 'Moonlight Shadow' and 'Blue Peter', which was written for the popular BBC children's TV show and used as the theme for twenty years.
'Tubular Bells II' is the fifteenth studio album by Mike Oldfield, and his first for 'Warners', after his contract with 'Virgin Records' ended. Co-produced by Trevor Horn, it is the successor to his 1973 debut hit album, and it too was a UK #1. It is similar in style to the original, and features the track, 'The Bell', which also has a Master of Ceremonies reading out a list of the instruments played, much like Vivian Stanshall did on the first album. The new role was taken by actor Alan Rickman, who is simply credited as “a strolling player”. 'The Bell', 'Tattoo' and 'Sentinel' were released as singles from the album, and all charted in the UK Top 50. 'Sentinel' featured a remix by electronic/ambient masters The Orb, and peaked at #10.
New and Unplayed.
