Original 1971 lp on RCA Red Seal (SER5612) Mike Westbrook – Tyger (a celebration of William Blake) Very scarce original u.k. only lp.Tyger was Adrian Mitchell’s musical about Blake which was staged by the National Theatre Company in 1971.This music,by Mike Westbrook, was specially commissioned for the musical.This lp is easily one of the rarest uk musical albums as well as being a major british jazz rarity in it’s own right. Band lineup is Westbrook on keys,Malcolm Griffiths on trombone,Dave Holdsworth,on trumpet,Gary Boyle on guitar,Alan Jackson on drums,Fiachra Trench on organ/piano,Nisar Ahmed Khan on sax/flute,Dave Wintour on bass. Superb music throughout and includes a killer vocal funk cut with rolling drums and folky female vocal.Actually lot’s of funky moments here with a few drum breaks as well as some lovely straight ahead jazz cuts and vocal harmonies.Essential lp for britjazz collectors and musical collectors alike as well as anyone searching for obscure funk and drum breaks.A very rare lp.Lovely copy too and this one is still complete with the thick paper insert.Clean and glossy vinyl with just a few paper scuffs visible under direct strong light.Looks virtually unplayed.The jacket is near mint and so is the insert.You won’t find a better copy than this one.This lp just never turns up for sale especially in this lovely condition with the original insert!
