Description
MILES DAVIS KIND OF BLUE UK MONO FONTANA TFL 5072.
This is a very rare original UK mono crossover 1st/2nd pressing with features of both the 1st and 2nd editions. These crossover pressing are seemingly almost impossible to find and therefore are rarer than the first and second press.
Features of the first press include:
- "33 1/3 r p m" instead of "33 1/3"
- "AA" appears before the 682 059 on the label
- Perimeter text ends with "MADE IN ENGLAND"
- E/T tax code on side 1
Features of the 2nd issue include:
- "KIND OF BLUE" is written above the spindle holes
- "Side 1" and "Side 2" are included on the labels
- There is no "PRODUCT OF PHILIPS" printed on the back cover.
The vinyl has surface marks that cause some background crackle. This is evident throughout but does not distract from the music. It is overpowered during the louder moments but is is noticeable in the very quiet passages. One or two of these marks are feelable and may cause brief skips (it wasn't too bad on my turntable but I appreciate that every set-up is different).
The sleeve has some minor edge wear and mild discolouration on the rear side. The spine and the edges have been repaired and strengthened (there is no longer any text visible on the spine). Despite all of this, the iconic imagery on the laminated front cover still looks decent, and the all important text on the back cover is clear and unspoiled.
Overall, this a perfectly acceptable copy of this highly sought after Jazz masterpiece but it is probably not one for the audiophile. One to play rather than to be a final copy for the collection. Please do not bid if you are looking for a mint copy.
This record has been carefully play tested from start to finish and is honestly described/graded to the best of my abilities.
