Description
Up for auction is an early mono copy of the Miles Davis & Milt Jackson album "Quintet/Sextet" originally released on Prestige Records (PRLP 7034) in 1956.
-Early 2nd pressing with First issue cover -Yellow & Black Prestige "fireworks" labels -Deep Groove pressing -Mono pressing -Bergenfield, NJ labels -Rare 446 West 50th Street, New York, NY cover -RVG in run-out matrix -Laminated paste-down cover
Condition: The first issue NYC cover is in great condition, with only light signs of age and handling. The front lamination retains its original glossy shine with only a hint of rubbing. Back is bone white with a hint of age around edges and a couple age marks at top. Seams are strong, not split or cracked. Nice. Corners are sharp with only one tiny chip. Grade the cover Near Mint Minus (NM-), very well-preserved.
The vinyl is still in very good shape, retains much of its original shine. Does have several light scratches and hairlines on both sides but nothing deep or serious that would cause skips or loud pops. Labels are clean. Grade the vinyl visually as VG (Very Good).
Play-Tested: Despite the scratches, this record sounds surprisingly nice, especially in recommended Mono Mode, with full-bodied fidelity, relatively clear sound with a little background noise that comes in and out, and a couple places where you'll hear a few repeating light ticks for a few rotations, but nothing major, nothing that really detracts from the enjoyment of the record. It actually sounds better than you'd expect from a typical visually VG record--probably hasn't been played too much despite the scratches.
