Miles Davis Quintet - Workin' With The Miles Davis Quintet
(Esquire 32-108 UK Mono LP 1960)
This is a 1960 UK Mono 1st pressing LP in very nice overall condition! It has a front laminated flipback sleeve. There is a flipback at the top & bottom of the rear sleeve. The sleeve has an extremely thin spine. The spine text is on the rear sleeve right next to the spine. The sleeve has the "Esquire Records Ltd., 76 Bedford Court Mansions, Bedford Avenue, London, W.C. 1" address on the rear sleeve. The sleeve is printed by "West Brothers Printers Limited, Mitcham". It comes with its original company polythene inner sleeve.
The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has textured "Esquire" "Microgroove" labels. These are grooved also. The record has 1st press PRLP 7166 A1 and PRLP 7166 B1 matrix numbers. These are machine etched on the dead wax. "RVG" is machine stamped in the dead wax on both sides.
This is a genuine 1960 UK 1st press LP. These are extremely difficult to find in the UK. The recordings are from May & October 1956. The Quintet consists of Miles Davis (trumpet), John Coltrane (tenor sax), Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and "Philly" Joe Jones (drums). I have some other rare & collectible 1960's, early 1970's, UK or USA Original Modern Jazz/ Free Jazz LP's for sale too. So please see my other listings. Don't miss out!
Sleeve: There is mild or very mild rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is some light, mild or very mild hairline rubbing wear on the sleeve opening edges on some areas. This hardly really notices under a strong light. There is a small area of hairline creases on the rear sleeve. This is at the centre area of the rear sleeve opening. There are about 4 small hairline laminate creases on the front sleeve. There are three tiny pin-head sized bits of rubbing wear on the spine. Otherwise, the spine is in great condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear on some areas. There are no seam splits anywhere on the sleeve. Overall, Very Good++ condition. These early UK Esquire sleeves are extremely prone to wear. This is a very clean & tidy copy.
Vinyl: There are three very light 1 cm hairline surface marks near the start of Side 1. These can hardly be seen under a strong light. There are two extremely light 4.5 cm hairline surface rub marks on Side 1. These are barely visible under a strong light. There is a 6 cm hairline surface rub mark on Side 1 too. Again, this is barely visible under a strong light. There are two extremely light 4.5 cm hairline surface sleeve rub marks on Side 2. These are barely visible under a strong light. There are two very small & very light hairline surface marks on Side 2. These measure 1 cm & 0.5 cm respectively. These can hardly be seen under a strong light.
Otherwise, there are some light, mild, very mild or very minor surface sleeve rubs which can hardly be seen under a strong light. The original inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, mild, very mild or very minor feint, or dull, surface marks on some areas. These are mainly on the dead wax areas. These, again, can hardly be seen under a strong light. Overall,Very Good++ condition. The labels are in Very Good++ condition and show mild to more moderate spindle wear only.
The original polythene company inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. There is light, mild or more moderate ringwear & creasing. There are no seam splits.
I have play tested this LP in its entirety. Side 1 plays Near Excellent to Excellent overall, & Excellent+ in many places. There is some light, very mild or very minor crackle in a few quieter places. There are no clicks or pops. Side 2 plays Very Good+ to Near Excellent overall & Excellent in many places. There is some light, mild, very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places. There are no clicks or pops. Overall, a very decent audio copy!
I shall place the vinyl into a separate plain paper inner sleeve. This will protect the original polythene inner sleeve from any damage during the shipping process.
Traceable insurance is already included in the stated P&P price for this listing.
Discount is given on P&P for multiple purchases. I shall always weigh combined purchases to get a completely accurate price. So please wait for the invoice to be sent before paying. Please see below for a more detailed description.
MINT Condition = A perfect copy! Almost impossible to find like this.
NEAR MINT Condition = Very nearly mint just slightly under, There may be a very few, very light paper surface sleeve rubs that can hardly be seen under strong light. This disc has been played a couple of times at most. The sleeve is virtually perfect - there is very minimal wear only.
EXCELLENT Condition = A clean & tidy copy that shows minimal defects. There will be light, very mild or very minor surface sleeve rubs. There will be no scratches. The cover will be very nice & clean with maybe minimal creasing, ringwear or edge rubbing wear etc...
NEAR EXCELLENT Condition = You can tell this record has been played a few times, but it has been well cared for. There will be minor surface marks only. The sleeve may have light, mild or very mild creasing, ringwear & very mild rubbing wear to the edges etc.... Overall, it will be a very serviceable copy that you will be pleased with.
Very Good Condition = A well played but very decent overall copy. There will be a few marks on the vinyl, but they won't be nasty scratches, just relatively light needle scuffs and sleeve removal marks, they will be noticeable but won't detract from play too much. Cover will show signs of storage/ ageing, e.g., creasing, slight folding, spinewear, ringwear or sticker tears etc... The record will not be trashed!!
Please note that I also use "+" or "-" symbols for this grading. A plus symbol is obviously at the top end of "Very Good" & is really not far from being in "near excellent" condition. The minus symbol obviously means it is at the lower end. This will mean that it is near to being in "Good+" condition.
>> Postage Rates AN INVOICE WILL BE SENT TO YOU VERY SOON AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS. PLEASE WAIT FOR THIS BEFORE PAYING.
(Please note that these prices include packaging costs too)
Double LPs are classed as two LPs. Also gatefold sleeves, posters, inserts, etc.. can increase postage costs.
Please note that there are VAT import charges from the UK into all EU countries. Anything under 150 Euros will need an IOSS number. VAT is paid at point of sale. For any items over 150 Euros in value. There will be a customs charge too. These vary, I believe, from country to country. Please check your relevant postal service online for details. Please note that these charges are beyond my control and are the law for outside parcels going into the EU.
All records will be sent in high quality vinyl box/ mailers with at least two card stiffeners either side of the LP or 7" Single. I use a cruciform box for larger orders (3-6 LPs). All parcels will be marked "Fragile" and dispatch time will generally be between 1-3 days after payment.
I will also remove the vinyl from the sleeve & place them in a re-sealable polythene sleeve. In order to prevent seam splits. Depending on the inner sleeve; I often remove the vinyl from the inner sleeve & place it in a separate plain paper, or polythene-lined, plain inner sleeve. I am very conscientious and careful when packaging your LP(s).
I consider my postage & packaging costs to be very transparent & very fair. Packaging costs will generally be between £0.80 to £1.50. I am not adding any further costs for handling, etc...If you are uncertain about any of the above, or just simply want some information regarding any item, please do not hesitate to contact me. I welcome any questions.
Remember to check out My Other Items Lots of rare & quality vinyl! Most are UK 1st Pressings. It is quite likely that there will be more records by this artist, or records in a similar vein.
