Artist:Miles Davis   Title:Someday My Prince Will Come   Label:Columbia Records   Year of release:1961   Catalog/Label number:CL 1656  Mono   Condition of vinyl:VG++ to Mint-   The glossy, lustrous vinyl is very clean, and looks close to new. Only a few light sleeve marks. No scratches. Labels look close to perfect (only one small, hardly visible spindle mark). Record plays flat with no warps.   Play grade:Mint-   The entire album sounded great and played extremely well. No hiss, clicks or skips.   Condition of record cover: Stong VG++   Cover is in beautiful condition with very little wear. No cuts, holes, tears, writing, creases or seam splits. Edges are sharp with no flaking. Original poly inner sleeve. Notes:Original 1961 6 eye mono Jazz LP. Hard to find in this condition. From Thom Jurek at allmusic: "After both John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley left Miles Davis' quintet, he was caught in the web of seeking suitable replacements. It was a period of trial and error for him that nonetheless yielded some legendary recordings (Sketches of Spain, for one). One of those is Someday My Prince Will Come. The lineup is Davis, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers, and alternating drummers Jimmy Cobb and Philly Jo Jones. The saxophonist was Hank Mobley on all but two tracks. John Coltrane returns for the title track and "Teo." The set opens with the title, a lilting waltz that nonetheless gets an original treatment here, despite having been recorded by Dave Brubeck. Kelly is in keen form, playing a bit sprightlier than the tempo would allow, and slips flourishes in the high register inside the melody for an "elfin" feel. Davis waxes light and lyrical with his Harmon mute, playing glissando throughout. Mobley plays a strictly journeyman solo, and then Coltrane blows the pack away with a solo so deep inside the harmony it sounds like it's coming from somewhere else. Mobley's real moment on the album is on the next track, "Old Folks," when he doesn't have Coltrane breathing down his neck. Mobley's soul-stationed lyricism is well-suited to his soloing here, and is for the rest of the album except, of course, on "Teo," where Coltrane takes him out again. The closer on the set, "Blues No. 2," is a vamp on "All Blues," from Kind of Blue, and features Kelly and Chambers playing counterpoint around an eight bar figure then transposing it to 12. Jones collapses the beat, strides it out, and then erects it again for the solos of Davis and Mobley. This is relaxed session; there are no burning tracks here, but there is much in the way of precision playing and a fine exposition of Miles' expansive lyricism".

All unsealed LP's are thoroughly inspected and checked for warps on a turntable. Many are then play graded. If played it will be mentioned in the description. All come with a new 3 mil poly outer sleeve for protection. All unsealed LP's also are shipped inside a new inner sleeve.

For U.S. mail shipments, add $4.00 for media mail (no additional charge for shipping each additional LP using media mail on the same order). Priority mail is $7.00, and $2.00 for each additional LP purchased. Maximum of 12 LP's in one shipment. 

All LP's are shipped in sturdy cardboard mailers from "Bags Unlimited" with filler pads larger than the album cover added for protection. Record ships outside the cover to avoid seam splits.

Insurance coverage is also recommended for domestic shipments.

Grading

Mint Record : Perfect record. No marks or defects.

Mint Album cover: Perfect cover. No marks or defects.

M- or NM Record: Nearly perfect. High gloss. At most, a light scuff appears. Plays very well with no surface noise.

M- or NM Album cover: Nearly perfect with only minor signs of wear. There should be no ring wear.

VG++ Record: Very clean. Perhaps some light surface scuffs, no scratches. Should play and look very good with faint, if any, audible surface noise.

VG++ Album cover: Some minor ring wear, but otherwise the artwork should be mostly unaffected. Also, there can be some minor creases in the corners but no splits in seams.

VG+ Record: The record shows signs of use, but plays well despite quite visible surface marks and possibly some light scratches. This grading is often used for records which have not been cared for perfectly but still play well overall. A few very faint clicks may be allowed, and will be included in the description.

VG+ Album cover: May have corners that may be slightly bent, but not broken. There may be wear to the seams but no tears or holes. Perhaps some small writing.  

VG Record: Looks used, light scratches, no gouges. Still plays fairly well. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music.

VG Album cover: There may be seam splitting, but not complete separation of the sleeve panels from each other. There will be noticeable ring wear, but most of the cover should still be in good condition.
