Capturing Miles incendiary 1964 performance in Tokyo (and one of only a handful of Miles Davis’ appearances with Sam Rivers), this is truly one of the finest Miles concerts on record; and the high-quality vinyl pressing does it justice!

After George Coleman left the Miles Davis Quintet, tenor-saxophonist Sam Rivers took his place for a short period including a tour of Japan. Davis did not care for Rivers's avant-garde style (they failed to develop any chemistry) and soon replaced him, but this live LP (originally only issued in Japan) survived to document this brief association. The music (five lengthy versions of standards) is actually of high quality with both Davis and Rivers in fine form and the young rhythm section (pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams) pushing the trumpeter/leader to open up his style.

These Japanese hi-grade , virgin-vinyl, extended-dynamic range vinyl pressings - while they were         available or imported  in the 1970's and early 1980's - were audiophile and connoisseur delights  (we   have not  seen these in  free circulation in years - some of them are highly collectible) These majestic  recordings received an  intense, meticulous and laborious treatment like very few other recordings did.   They are characterized by the boosted dynamic and frequency range, and were USUALLY - but not always  -  mastered from the early generations of master tapes (as opposed to the so-called 'production'  tapes), almost compulsive  attention was paid to the detail and integrity of the pressing and craftsmanship,   and the highest quality  of the material. Many of  these recordings remain unsurpassed, delivering music  reproduction as close to  the actual recording session as possible, without any loss of musical information  inherent in the standard practice of mastering from the inferior "production" copies. This is one of the rare opportunities to acquire this great album in its true, original, primordial audio format., no longer being  imported, and no longer easily obtainable. In the  best tradition of  Warner-Pioneer Corporation of Japan  or EMI-Toshiba Corporation (which pressed all those beautiful Mobile Fidelity Original Masters LPs and albums at their Japan facilities) ,  the sound quality is truly extraordinary - much better, actually, than the original vinyl  version of this album. A stunning, jaw-dropping, mouth-watering audiophile experience, not to be missed.

(b)          The record is STILL in its original inner, hi-grade PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(c)           The album comes with it's original Japanese insert

(d)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.

(e)             In addition, the record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
