Some great playing on this, especially considering that Davis, Rollins and McLean were all heroin junkies at this point. This was Miles Davis' second recording for Prestige and Jackie Mclean's debut.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS ITEM COMES FROM OUR RECENT ACQUISITION OF ABOUT 10 1950s ALBUMS WHICH ALL HAD A MILD-TO-MODERATE COVER DAMAGE DUE TO EXTENDED EXPOSURE TO HUMIDITY (THE RECORDS WERE ENTIRELY UNAFFECTED); TYPICALLY, THE PAPER SLICK ON THE FRONT PANELS HAD SEPARATED FROM THE CARDBOARD BASES AND HAD TO BE REATTACHED; THERE ARE ALSO FISSURES AND CRACKS IN THE LAMINATION ON THE FRONT SIDE, OR ON THE PAPER SLICK ON THE BACK PANEL, MINOR WARPS ALONG THE OPENING, AS WELL AS A FEW TINY PEEL-OFF MARKS ON THE BACK SIDE; THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE COVER'S CARDBOARD BASE DOES NOT APPEAR SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED, BUT THE PAPER SLICK ON THE BACK AND THE LAMINATED SLICK ON THE FRONT WILL TYPICALLY HAVE SOME PROBLEMS; BEFORE YOU PLACE A BID, PLEASE READ CAREFULLY OUR COVER CONDITION SO AS TO AVOID ANY DISAPPOINTMENTS LATER THANK YOU.
· CONDITION:
· RECORD
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++. A few light abrasions ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. Two small "Emarcy haze" cloudy spots/discolorations noted on side 2, track 1, not expected to be audible
(b) The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).
(c) The record has a ►Rudy Van Gelder name, or his initials (RVG) stamped or hand-etched in the trail-off vinyl (dead wax). On SOME Jazz labels (Blue Note, Savoy, Regent, Prestige, Impulse, Verve…) this stamp signifies highly professional masterings either done by - or personally authorized by - the legendary engineer himself.
(d) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!
(e) Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its FAKE ("electronically rechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies of this album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 10:1.
(f) True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.
(g) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
· COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):
THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)
- A faint water stain affects the area about 2 inch wide along the edges (spine, bottom, opening side); there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are (mostly) intact, however, the stain is visible and has caused some erosion in the firmness of the cover , loosening of the lamination and a few cracks and fissures in it, visible yellowish discoloration, a few microscopic peel-off marks and a slight warp in the affected area (which has no effect on the record whatsoever). All tiny peel-off marks COMBINED total less than 1/4 square inch.
- Cover has a visible crack (tear) in the paper slick on the back panel, which has been repaired with a 11-inch long piece of clear scotch tape as well as a crack (tear) in the laminated slick on the front panel
- Cover has visible air bubbles in the front (laminated) slick on the front panel
- Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 4 (back side)
- Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there (these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting)
- Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging (nothing significant).
- Dusty staining noted on the back panel
- The laminated cover has a few air 'bubbles' and wrinkles in lamination (this is a common problem with most laminated 50’s and 60’s covers
- Visible shelf wear noted on the opening side
- Cover has two corners slightly worn / dinged (nothing significant)
- Cover has a partially split top seam (less than 1 inch / 2.5 centimeters)
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No writing
- No stamps
- No stickers or labels
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
- No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
- No glue traces or wax residue.
- No bar codes
- No RIAA stamps or stickers.
