MILLER ANDERSON

BRIGHT CITY

Year of Release: 1971

First press Matrix Nos: IMLP 021 IL-1 & IMLP 021 2l-1 .

The producers : Neil Slaven

Classic stereo album on Deram records, this is his only album on Deram. This is regarded as a mini-classic blending folk with progressive elements. This very heavy pressing on the original labels is one of the earliest ever made.. With just a tiny few surface blemishes on the record., it has faired well for its considerable vintage, all evidence strongly suggests very few plays. The flimsy lightweight cover has also survived the years well.

Cover Grade : EX still highly attractive. A gatefold front & back laminated sleeve made with very thin and soft card, this bends easily and should not be held on any single corner.

Lamination – Front only: The laminate retains a lovely shine and clarity with hardly any friction rubs or dulling. There is no rim wear which is amazing with a 160 gram record inside for well over 40 years. The most significant blemish is some very small thumb creases ( see photos)Top Edge: No wear at all

Bottom Edge: No wear at all, both surprisingly straight given the lack of width.
Opening: Quite sharp with no minimal wear and no feathering.
Spine and Text: Incredibly thin again, compressed or not, not sure. As solid and straight as could be expected. Minor wear
Corners: The corners have some wear.
Cover Summary: A very fine all round example of this very fragile early 70's cover, one that will prove difficult to find much better. This still looks attractive with any flaws or wear modest and light, it should please many collectors but not the perfectionists of course. Do not underestimate just how delicate, light and flimsy this highly damage-prone cover is, made even more so with a very heavy record inside.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: VG+ and with any few surface marks light and faint. Finding a genuine first pressed copy of this elusive Deram classic better will prove hard. A super visual copy that is super clean, shiny, intense black and very heavily pressed. A copy with only light use on all the evidence. Visually a super record that should please many collectors.
Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This wonderful record plays even above its high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. There are a couple of tics at the start of side two but not over the vocal. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and no significant pops or clicks were noted except as stated. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been carefully handled. These vintage albums rarely escape a few faint surface blemishes . Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. Overall VG+

Do not underestimate how rare this record is
