This is The Bee Gees First LP (Extremely Rare original 1967 PROMOTIONAL Japanese
Polydor Nippon Grammophon Co. 14-song LP. The vinyl is in superb Stone mint condition
with pristine labels. It has a fantastic psychedelic image laminated flipback cover
complete with a Japanese/ English lyric insert SLPM-1379). The cover is in gorgeous
MINT 9 shape while the lyric sheet is graded at NEAR-MINT 8!
This initial and Promotional Release of this album in Japan was on very thick, very rigid
vinyl with a WHiTE POLYDOR Record Label. The sound quality is OUTSTANDING! This album
was then issued to radio stations and also used in various other areas of promotion. It was
not uncommon for Japanese record companies to do this for unknown Non-Japanese recording
artists. It was only after radio listeners called in routinely to request enough of the songs from
the album that Polydor decided to issue a commercial release which was on the Standard
RED POLYDOR Record Label.
The Psych Cover and RED PLOYDOR record was issued until 1972 when RSO bought the entire
Bee Gees catalog and Robert Stigwood changed the cover art over to the standard issue.
The manager of THE BEE GEES, Robert Stigwood, always hated the Japanese Psych cover. He had
tried initially to stop its release as he didn’t want the group to be known as another Psych-Acid-Drug
Related rock group. He had wanted Japan to use the standard Australian, American, United Kingdom
front covers which were all the same. But he couldn’t stop it. Stigwood did make sure that all future
covers (Artwork) of future albums by The Bee Gees were chosen and approved by him. He chose the
most blasé of record covers that always kept the pictures of the group in the background or muted in
some way. He thought the members of the group were a bit unattractive especially Robin.
So, here you are, a guaranteed 1st Pressing which was used only as a promotional album and its condition
would be impossible to improve upon. Includes the song "In My Own Time" which the American DJs reported
at the time that the voice was actually done by John Lennon of THE BEATLES. Of course it wasn't!
The record number SLPM-1379 is machine stamped into the trail-off vinyl next to the labels guaranteeing
authenticity! This is quite possibly the Bee Gees Rarest LP in existence today.
