Ars Nova was a rock/classical hybrid group formed in New York in 1967...
The merger of rock and classical music was inevitable. Ars Nova was a group of classical musicians playing rock as if the connection had existed all through time. Baroque, medieval settings were suggested from their compositions. Though extremely unique and technically professional, their short career proved that even tasteful novelty does not always make it (no kidding).
Ars Nova released its debut album in April 1968 and was profiled in the June 28, 1968, issue of Life magazine, but that didn't help them. The album didn't chart, the band re-organized, and there was a second album, Sunshine and Shadows, in June 1969.
In the wake of the first album’s release the band was torn apart by musical and personal disagreements. When things finally settled down, ARS NOVA re-grouped and the revamped band signed with Atlantic. Released in mid-1969, “Sunshine and Shadows” found the band working pretty much in the same direcetion as their first album -- tracks such as the title track "Sunshine & Shadows", “I was Once” and “She Promises Everything” retained the band’s “arty” leanings. Pastorial melodies, folkish harmonies and thoughtful lyrics made for a decent album. “Well, Well, Well” is even better, due to the atypical rock tempo and Brown’s screaming fuzz guitar solo. Becoming yet another US underground obscurity from the sixties, ARS NOVA soon vanished without a trace.
CONDITION: The cover is MINT still in original factory shrink wrapper = little bit of cellophane wrapper on front (only) is missing along pocket opening; all the wrapper on the back cover is there... tight and colorful with 4 sharp corners, no bends, no splits, no delete marks, the perfect 41 year old original!
The vinyl is all glossy clean and clear M- looks and plays TOP level "NICE" ...
