PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. In 1969, Shocking Blue’s songwriter/guitarist Robby van Leeuwen was on a major creative roll, penning an extraordinary number of classics in rapid succession. The best-known of which was “Venus,” a single that rose to the upper reaches of many international singles charts. The Dutch group released four more singles the same year, but none of them had the impact in the same manner as “Venus.” To this day, it is the song most people outside of the group’s native turf of Holland associate with Shocking Blue and it’s not surprising as to why: it had the greatest amount of airplay in its day, it’s catchy, compact enough it doesn’t overstay its welcome and is sexy as hell.
"The Shocking Blue” is a US-reconfiguration of their Dutch “At Home” album, but unlike the majority of this sort of American label reassemblies of foreign-released LPs, it squarely hit the mark in every way. Not only by losing what was the weakest link on “At Home” (“I’ll Write Your Name Through The Fire”), this US version adds their great singles “Mighty Joe” and “Send Me A Postcard” re-programming the whole album into a far more satisfying listen in every way...."The Shocking Blue” is a perfect and immaculate baker’s dozen; ‘specially as it’s cut from the same strident and monolithic urgency as “Love Buzz” or “California Here I Come.” In attendance are the fuzz guitar licks snarling up a storm, the non-Raga pop sitar melody, stoic bass lines, the metronomic-with-pure-simplicity drumming and the lyrics are of the same burnt qualities that van Leeuwen purveyed so often at this time, verging on the simplistic. And once they are communicated through vocalist Mariska Veres’ strident, Grace Slick-staring-down-Renate Knaup-Krötenschwanz ( of Amon Duul II) tones in her charming and engaging German/Hungarian/Dutch-filtered English, they become something else altogether.
