PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Surely the most balanced album of Fred Neil, this eponymous masterwork is from beginning to end a delightful listen and usually the preferred LP among fans and reviewers. It's the only Fred Neil album in which electric guitars were used. Without knowing very well why, the reverberated electric guitar that opens 'The Dolphins' and the entire LP reminds of the sensation of an infinitely peaceful landscape....
Fred Neil's self-titled second album is a languid and fluid gem that continues to stand outside of time decades later. The beautifully sad, introspective songs of weary modern urban disaffection that Neil brought to these sessions in 1967 are among the best he ever wrote, and the perfectly balanced electric instrumentation suits them to a T. Neil's calm, wearied basso vocals pull things along here at a decidedly unhurried pace, and the songs themselves seem to drift organically into being as he sings them, until listening to this album begins to feel like floating. And what songs! "The Dolphins" and "Everybody's Talkin'" -- a huge hit in a cover version by Harry Nilsson -- are classics by anybody's definition, and Neil's reconstruction of Libba Cotton's "Shake Sugaree" as "I've Got a Secret" is a perfect example of the folk process alive and well in a commercial recording studio. Neil had absolutely no interest in the business aspect of making music, though, and where most musicians seek the spotlight, he shunned it, which meant Fred Neil the album went nowhere commercially, although it influenced countless other artists.
Fred Neil, all these years later, remains a haunting and reassuring masterpiece.
