Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. CHEAP THRILLS ~ BIG BROTHER & JANIS
FANTASTIC MUSEUM QUALITY ARTIFACT
- STONE MINT EVERYWHERE with 4 SHARP CORNERS,
Original 1968 first pressing in thick gatefold cover on the highly collected 360 Sound COLUMBIA label of the sixties....first pressing of the dynamic second album by BIG BROTHER with Janis Joplin at their peak... for whatever reason finding CLEAN first pressings of this album is not easy, we don't list it but rarely, as clean copies don't seem to be around.
And the 1968 album...Janis Joplin is known for her expressive and powerful female voice opposed to the male dominated music scene of the late 60’s. With a blues rock band backing her, she served soul-screeching psychedelic songs with a nerve so very intense. This album is an extract of a raw and flourish musical vibe; heavy psychedelic, intense and eager with massive emotional impact and made Janis a legendary STAR!
Big Brother and the Holding Company provide noisy and bombastic jams behind Janis’s stunning voice – at times sluggish but solid. The guitars are overdriven to the extreme, and they generally have a huge role in the sound of “Cheap Thrills”. Massive solos give the feeling of this peak of a musical outburst, which the band are really good at. The general sound of the band is nicely not very professional. It is more the energy and spirit living in the music than the technical skills, and this spirit is really shown when the wide guitar solos sing along with Janis’s beautifully screaming voice. This proves the fact that the band wouldn’t be anything big without Janis, because she is the perfect missing link in the edgy and heavy sound of Big Brother and the Holding Company.
The classic “Summertime” is interpreted in a beautiful but melancholic manner. The moody melody exhausted by Joplin shows how much she used herself, giving everything to the music which perhaps was too much. Her early death by the age of 27 proved how she sacrificed too much to the scene, which is visible in her recordings. Her voice is so devoted and connected to the music that you can almost sense it through the songs, like in the song “Ball and Chain”, a powerful and emotional minor blues, which is almost tragic as it presents a broken love story so immense that it almost cries. This is the blues, and Joplin’s rich voice is in fact the essence of “the blues”: sad, melancholic yet strong and convincing. Her roots in the blues are likely wise visible in the soul-searching “Turtle Blues”, where she states that she’s “a mean, mean woman” and that she “just treats ‘em like I wants to”, concluding that she’s really just a turtle hiding underneath its shell. This is another example of how her charismatic and appealing voice makes a simple blues much more interesting.
Cheap Thrills does certainly give thrills, but they’re perhaps cheap because they don’t require a huge and professional band, just a killer garage-psych outfit, with a fantastic and iconic singer named Janis Joplin.
