Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP $4.00 Media; 2-4 discs $5.00; .50 each additional disc Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   CANADA ~ 1 LP 8.50; 2 discs $10.00; 3 discs $11.50; over 4 please contact us for shipping costs.   AUSTRALIA, THAILAND, JAPAN ~ 1 LP $18.00; 2 discs $23.00; 3 discs $27.00; 4 discs $32.00.                  THE PRETTY THINGS

                   ...ENGLAND - Philips International - 6625015

TOP COPY! (Stamped Matrix numbers)   RARE first printing British early 70's 2xLP in richly laminated inside and outside gatefold in original Philips plastic lined printed sleeves... not the repress you occasionally see but the RARE first pressing and best 'overview' of prime era PRETTY THINGS...raw, ugly, R&B infused rockin' beat with stinging guitar and howling vocals...they were considered GODS by many...often copied by countless beat & garage bands...but NEVER equaled.... FOR A SHORT TIME, around the London clubs and art school dances, back in 1964, it seemed as though the Pretty Things might just unseat the Stones from the top position as the south of England's "happening" R&B band...and that included the Yardbirds too...They sounded like a cross between early raw ROLLING STONES and Yardbirds...Appearing 6 months after the STONES, longer-haired, louder, rougher, uglier...they were THE PRETTY THINGS.. DICK TAYLOR (The original Bass player for the Stones) formed The Pretty Things with PHIL MAY in 1963...May was often compared to MICK JAGGER but always resented it..and was quoted as saying, "I saw Jagger in his early days only a couple of times. I didn't see their Ealing (UK) gigs, and I think I saw one Richmond gig...The only thing he and I were doing the same were the 'dance steps' - and we were only doing whatever dance we used to do at art school..Our predecessors had done something which we didn't want to do - they had worked out foot movements. We used to go on stage and do anything - scratch ourselves - because there was no precendent. All the people we were learning our music from did nothing...just stood or sat and played.." Comparisons between the groups' material were equally inevitable and just as individious, since every R&B group drew from the same fertile sources. CHUCK BERRY, BO DIDDLEY(Whose 'PRETTY THING' provided the band's ironic title), JIMMY REED, JOHN LEE HOOKER, and other bluesmen. But each group had its favorites, and as this LP shows, the PRETTY THINGS had theirs and their own distinctive approach..along with their own material...The PRETTY THINGS are still remembered for their earlier works and their raw energy still hits hits like a smack in the mouth. You can still feel the bruises today.... Entitled "GREATEST HITS 1964-1967". This Double LP Set is an Original UK early 70's IMPORT. This Double LP set is a richly laminated Original with beautiful gatefold revealing vintage photos and history liner notes... and has NO BARCODE...
