PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. When it comes unadulterated ’70’s macho thunder-rock, no one can really top Australia’s Buffalo.
Formed by former blues vocalist Dave Tice in Sydney in the summer of 1971, the band bellowed out both a burly, heavyrock sound with so called intentional slant on woman-hating lyrics (misogynist ambiance) across the five killer-rated albums they recorded for the highly collectible and lauded imprint, Vertigo. Their third album, ‘Only Want You for Your Body’ – which was released in June 1974 with a cover image of an overweight, scantily clad woman on a torture table and song titles such as ‘I’m a Skirt Lifter, Not a Shirt Raiser’ – truly defines their macho stance.
The aforementioned ‘I’m A Skirt Lifter, Not A Shirt Raiser’ opens up the album with a raucous, riviting explosion. The band is locked into a driving rhythm while Tice delivers his gravely vocals with all the grace of a Sherman tank. After that, the mighty BUFFALO blast though ‘I’m Coming Down’, ‘Dune Messiah’, the former a tough Ten Years After influence and the latter, a heavy, Black Sabbath-at-a-snail’s-pace tune that crushes. Elsewhere, John Baxter delivers some seriously hammering hard guitar on tracks such as ‘What’s Going On’ and ‘Kings Cross Ladies,’ and it makes you wonder if some of those New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands might have had a copy of this record hidden away in their record collections and unconsciously bit a riff or two from the man. The influences are obvious.
‘Only Want You for Your Body’ remains one of those special pieces of the ’70’s hard rock puzzle; one that is equally obscure as it is seminal. Do yourself a favor and pick up this scarce re-issue of ‘Only Want You for Your Body’ if you can't find or can't afford ($$$) the first press. If you’re a fan of things hard, heavy, grinding and loud as hell, you won’t regret it.
