MIRIAM MAKEBA

“PATA PATA”

MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original MONO very first press released in Chile in 1968 by Reprise Records, made and distributed by Discos Philips (Philips Records), licensed from Reprise-USA for Warner Bros. Records, Inc., with tricolor “steamboat” Reprise Records labels, catalog number R-6274, with hand etched matrix numbers R-6274-A AA in Side 1 and R-6274-B AA in Side 2. WHAT A FIND!!! Another rare Chilean press of a great album!!! And what a GREAT CONDITION!!!

“PATA PATA” was originally released in 1967 and we had to wait until 1968 to get this album released here in Chile and like usual those years the cover in Chile is UNIQUE, made of a very thin cardboard or thick paper folded in the middle, faking a gatefold cover, so 3 sides are open and kept together for an outer plastic bag. Front cover keeps strictly the original artwork with the photo of Miriam Makeba, album title at top left corner and Reprise Records logo and catalog number at top right corner. Back cover is totally different, it has the album title and name of Miriam Makeba at top edge, a brief review about Miriam Makeba and the tracklist written in original language, with original song titles in English, written in Spanish only, with full credits for songwriters. The same happens for labels. It’s interesting to notice that in back cover it’s informed that distribution in Chile is by “DISCOS PHILIPS” but in labels it’s “PHILIPS CHILENA S.A.”, different names for Philips Records!!! WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Miriam Makeba and World music!!!

The cover is in VG- or VG condition, clean and clear, no ring marks, evident wear in all the edges, more evident in bottom, with many little rips in the mouth and bottom edges, some age browning, creases, little missing parts at top right corner and mouth and bottom edge, with a paper with a number at bottom right corner in front cover and a stamp of the radio station which originally owned this record in front and back cover, but some past owner repaired the edges and used a plastic bag to protect the cover and it has worked very well, so that plastic cover won’t be removed. The record is in superb EX- or EX condition both sides, glossy and clean, with only some very light scuffs and hairlines, and some soft scratches, which of course don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in NM- or NM condition, clear and clean, with only minimal spindle hole wear and the same stamp of the radio station, 2 stamps in each side. The sound is the best part, it’s in absolute EX+ or NM- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, with a very soft background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile) and light crackles here and there, more evident in the silent parts, which of course don’t cause any distraction from the great sound this LP keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, a MEGARARE record released in Chile with UNIQUE COVER, with still a great glossy look and still amazing sound quality after about 54 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean issue!!! A record to sit, listen and enjoy, and AMAZING FIND FROM CHILE AGAIN!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

_________________________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
