Harmonia Mundi

Rare avant-garde release by french composer and founder of the Nuits de La Fondation Maeght festival Francis Miroglio.

Some info on the release: Rare release on the french Harmonia Mundi label by Francis Miroglio, features his avant-garde compositions "Magnetiques" and "Tremplins". Magnetiques commissioned by Radio France in the late 70's uses experimental playing techniques with technical, acoustic and psychological connotations. Tremplins was commissioned by the Ensemble Musique Vivante and its conductor Diego Masson. Was first performed at the festival Nuits de La Fondation Maeght. Miroglio is also known for his releases on the Philips Prospective 21 Siecle series with silver covers.

Francis Miroglio was a french composer that studied together with Darius Milhaud and followed the summer courses at the Darmstadt school during 1959-1965. Back in 1965 he founded the the festival of music and art Nuits de La Fondation Maeght at Saint-Paul-de-Vence and remained its' artistic director until 1971. On this festival appeared figures of the avant-garde, like Sun Ra, Albert Ayler, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Charlemagne Palestine, Cecil Taylor, La Monte Young, Francois Tusques, Pandit Pran Nath, Sunny Murray and many more that appeared later on releases on the Shandar label. He has collaborated with artists, such as Bruno Maderna, Eugen Bigot, Van Kampen, Alexander Calder and Joan Miro, intergrating often on visual works musical elements. His music had a post-serial tendency and more often was aleatory and open-form. He's known for being one of the first to write for the electroacoustic medium in the early 60's.

Francis Miroglio belongs to the great avant-garde/experimental composers "wave" that appeared in Europe in the 60's/70's/80's with main representators composers like Hans Werner Henze, Pierre Boulez, György Kurtág, Wolfgang Rihm, Helmut Lachenmann and Salvatore Sciarrino, Heinz Holliger, Brian Ferneyhough, and Nicolaus A. Huber, Karlheinz Stockhausen, György Ligeti and Bruno Maderna, Henri Pousseur or more widely Bernd Alois Zimmermann, John Cage, Toru Takemitsu, Bruno Maderna, Jani Christou, Iannis Xenakis and of course Pendercki.
