Title: Airto’s Brazilian Mass - Misa Espiritual

Original german stereo pressing from 1984 on HARMONIA MUNDI,HM 663,golden label.Percussionist Airto Moreira composed this one,Gil Evans is the musical director of the Westgerman Radio(=WDR)Big Band.

Line up:has a horn/reed-section ft.Alan Skidmore,Rick Kiefer,John Eardly,Johnny Teupen(on tuba!) Marcos Silva/keyboard, Philip Catherine/guitar,Trilok Gurtu & Fredy Santiago /perc, Bora Rokovic/piano, Jean Warland/bass,WDR Strings and the Boite a Musique Vokalensemble,David Rosenberg/drums.Airto is on percussion and does some vocals.

Very unique blend of spiritual jazz,brazilian percussion(tons of berimbau!),avantgarde big band and more,very hard to be described.The 4 long tracks develop slowly from sparse percussion parts via small combo passages to full Big Band sound:

A1 Entróito 9:31 A2 Kyrie 8:11 B1 Gloria 11:28 B2 Comunhao Finis 7:50.The soundquality is truely “audiophile”(as on most HARMONIA MUNDI recordings),the dynamics just blow your mind!The gatefold-cover has a laminated front & back,the inner has liner-notes in english & german.Hard to find and highly recommended!

Condition:side 1 looks mint- to ex++,there are a few tiny hairlines/marks causing some very low soft tics behind the music at the end of the first track and for a few seconds at the beginning of the second track,the rest of this side plays in mint- all of the time.Side 2 looks and plays in mint-.The cover is in mint-.

Grading:this used record has been cleaned on a prof. cleaning machine.After that I playgraded it on a Rega Planar 9 with a Rega Super Elys moving magnet system and I also visually graded the record under a strong light.I give you a detailed description of both gradings.Only an unplayed record is mint,the highest grading for a used record is mint-! My basic gradings are:mint-ex-vg.As a free service,cleaned records are stored in a brandnew deluxe innersleeve and the cover will be placed in a brandnew PVC protection-sleeve!
