Whats purple and lives in the sea, answer Moby Grape.
From the pathetic joke doing the rounds in the 60’s, this Californian outfit formed in 1967 took their name.
Their first two albums the self titled “Moby Grape” and “Wow” made the US charts albeit only 24 and 20
respectively, but completely bombed in the UK, two more albums followed which did likewise on both sides
of the pond.
Personally I rate the first more rocky album superior, but the LP on offer here is still a worthwhile timepiece of American rock history. If only for the variation in style and songwriting this is a interesting recording that shows us many wonderful sides to this amazing band, ranging from pure psychedelia to rocky Blues.
Fact is, “Cant Be So Bad”,"Murder In My Heart For The Judge," "He," "Motorcycle Irene," "Miller's Blues," "Rose-Colored Eyes" and "Bitter Wind" are some of the best things Moby Grape ever did.
Not to mention a gimmicky track that needs to be played at 78rpm with its admonition to "kindly get up and change your turntable to 78”
An above average album by the Bays finest and not so easy to come across these days. If you dig American music in any of its variations, this is a must for any collection!
The record is in excellent condition with only minor superficial signs of use that dont affect play. Likewise the
sleeve is in very good condition showing only slight wear and lamination creases
