HEY SISTER / WORK OUT ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by MONGUITO SANTAMARIA vocals by RONNIE MARKS produced by JERRY MASUCCI recording director JOHNNY PACHECO. Original French biem pressing on the DISCJOCKEY label (116.502), from 1969. Killer latin soul double-sider, lead by the Cuban pianist and son of conguero, Mongo Santamaria. Funky fender basslines / stabbing horns and Barry Rogers style trombone solos / rawkus vocals / conga breaks and endless beats on the boogaloo delirium of HEY SISTER. For us, this French picture sleeve release is by far, the superior issue over the US Fania single. As an extra treat on top of the desirable HEY SISTER theme, the b-side on the French issue replaces the Fania single's slow Bolero, Soy Tu Ley with yet another funky mod / latin classic. Groovy psychedelic bugalu with a West Indies / Afro Caribbean twist on WORK OUT featuring lots more infectious vocals and rhythms / montuno piano and R&B crossover sounds. 2 fine examples of Nuyorican / El Barrio / Spanish Harlem groove with a soulful / James Brown slant. Great for DJs. Booming production by the legendary NYC latin promotor and Fania label co-founder, Jerry Masucci with direction by the legendary multi-instrumentalist, Johnny Pacheco (the man who was also credited with coining the term 'Salsa' as a latin genre). File beside your Manny Corchado / Tito Puente / Ray Barretto club bangers ;) Striking artwork sleeve too. Rare 45!!!

Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG+ condition with some hairlines and light scuffs. Some light surface noises. Booming production sound. The matt card flipback picture sleeve is in strong VG+ condition overall with ring creasing / general creasing from storage / corner wear in places / moisture stains to spine side area of back sleeve. Original languette still intact. Rare 45!!!
