Description
Great vintage jazz LP featuring THELONIOUS MONK on the RIVERSIDE label from the mid 1950s. Title is “Brilliant Corners,” catalog number is RLP 12-226. First pressing, label is white with pale blue logo and black print, deep groove in label, monaural.
Personnel are as follows: MONK – piano and celeste, ERNIE HENRY or CLARK TERRY (one track) – alto saxophone, SONNY ROLLINS on tenor saxophone, OSCAR PETTIFORD or PAUL CHAMPBERS (one track) – bass, and MAX ROACH on drums and tympany. One track (“I Surrender, Dear”) is an unaccompanied piano solo.
Jacket is in fine condition with beautiful graphics, no splits, reverse is slightly darkened with age, and has name “SEWALL” stamped and notation “Rec’d Feb. 1958” to document that it was recorded onto tape (see scan). This is consistent with the condition, for the vinyl is in gorgeous NEAR MINT condition. Has full 100% gloss, no marks, was probably played one time for taping purposes then carefully stored away. It is a beauty, and I am certain the winning bidder will be very pleased.
Side 1 contains following songs: “Brilliant Corners” (Monk), and “Ba-lue Bolivar Ba-lues-are” (Monk). Side 2 songs are: “Pannonica” (Monk), “I Surrender, Dear” (Clifford-Barris), and “Bemsha Swing” (Monk-Best).
