We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. 1.    The 1966 debut of the British rock group, SMALL  FACES, is essential British Invasion music with lots of bluesy vocals, guitar feedback, and energetic drumming. The Small Faces get a lot of comparison to The Who (ironic because Small Faces drummer, Kenny Jones, would become The Who's drummer after Keith Moon died), but they are very different bands and the Small Faces were not as popular and haven't received the credit they deserve. Just listening to this album, especially the high-energy vocals of guitarist Steve Marriott shows where a lot of Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant's influence came from. Honestly, at times, the likeness between Marriott and Plant is uncanny (it's only magnified when Marriott sings "You need coolin', baby I'm not foolin', I'm gonna send you back to schoolin'..." (from "You Need Lovin'") - words obviously adopted for Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love").
'The Small Faces' 1965 first British album shows the band knows exactly what they're doing and it's a glorious one: the two lengthy improvised jams 'Come On Children' and 'E Too D' are for me about as great as music gets up until The Beatles release 'Revolver' three months after this album. Wild and raw, exciting and hypnotic, Marriott has never sounded better and the band have never sounded tighter, with a heavy year of playing lengthy sets with songs stretched out to breaking point paying off handsomely by the time the band make this LP. Even The Who aren't quite this intense this early) and this album certainly packs quite a powerhouse in The WHO styled intensiveness for 1966.

  2. The fan man adds:

There's nobody like the SMALL  FACES at their best -- as you'll hear from the group's killer 1966 album on Decca! The style here is tight, and fully-formed straight from the start -- easily one of the best UK 60s hybrids of American influences from R&B, garage rock, and early psych -- sorted out perfectly by a mop-top quartet who really know what they're doing. This album's maybe even more focused than the Rolling Stones first couple of albums.  The Small Faces are all business, and the right kind of gritty -- just fantastic stuff that's fresh and equally exciting even today!
