THE MONOCHROME SET  - 'Eine Symphonie des Grauens' / 'Lester Leaps In'       1979   UK     Portland Recording Studios  7" ACETATE  disc (no cat. number)

Rare Acetate test pressing of the second Monochrome Set single.  Eventually released on the influential Rough Trade label (RT019) in 1979.    No catalogue or matrix numbers on the disc, but comes in the original Rough Trade picture sleeve.

CONDITION:     RECORD HAS BEEN PLAY TESTED USING ORTOFON ELLIPTICAL STYLUS.      U.K.  MAGAZINE  'RECORD COLLECTOR'  GRADING SYSTEM USED (please note abbreviations differ from USA grading system).   See end of description for full definitions.   Usually under-grade to avoid buyer disappointment.

Please note acetate discs are usually pressed on a laquered covered metallic disc and are used primarily to test the tape-to-disc quality of the recording.  They are not made for repeat playing and wear out far quicker than regular vinyl.

That said, playing condition of both sides is VG-        There is some background crackle evident during playback, but in no way does this smother the sound recording.       Visually the disc is VG, with some light surface marks in places.

Picture sleeve is EX- condition - a little discolouration on the reverse, that's all

Record Collector Magazine's Grading System  - VINYL

MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint

EXCELLENT (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG) The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the cover and extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable

GOOD (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeable deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and or deface

POOR (P) The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing

BAD (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken and is only of use as a collection filler
