Description

MONTES / CUANDO BRILLE EL TIEMPO / PHILIPS 6406020 / 1974 / ESTEREO / Original Argentinean pressing. Probably "Cuando Brille el Tiempo" is one of the best records to come out from the South American heavy/psych scene from mid 70's. Leaded by Argentinean guitar player Jorge Montes, the band played their first gigs in a neighbour country under the name of Montes Mahatma.. During this period J. Montes traveled around different South American countries, playing some gigs here & there, he also traveled to the USA and took the chance to pick up some local musical elements that most of Argentinean musicians from those times weren't fond of or interested in. Curiously, the Argentinean people involved in the rock scene were never too much interested in what was happening in the rest of Latin American countries. This way, J. Montes developed a very personal guitar sound, completely different from his fellows standards, especially because the use of effects and a latin oriented conception. Later on back in Argentina and after line-up changes, they release their first single as Montes on 1973 featuring two mind crushing tracks that wouldn't be included in their only lp released one year later (1974). Finally, and due to commercial flop and lack of support the band split. Fortunately Montes' legacy is just unique, not only because his superb West Coast styled fuzz blasting guitar job, highly influenced by Hendrix, & Santana, etc , but also simply because the album really reaches epic moments with great lyrics, phased vocals and a conceptual maturity that other Argentinean outfits from the period failed to achieve. Cvr= Solid Vg+ (Cover looks clean, it was originally made in a fragile textured stuff, not easy to find in perfect nick, this one has upper right corner dog eared and seam wear (white) on the same area , bottom seam looks ok with just moderate wear and so does spine with a tiny tear on mid portion, back cover shows some light wear as well and previous owner's name/date written on lower portion of the band's pic (check scan) except for these flaws probably the result of a improper storage, sleeve looks still fine) / Rec= Ex (Disc has just few sleeve scuffs, keeps full original gloss, B side looks close to M-, labels are clean without writings or any kind of imperfections, and plays great with clean & bright sound ) Nice Copy!!. CONSERVATIVE GRADING.
