"Days Of Future Passed" was among the albums that musicologists often cite as a forerunner for what would eventually be coined "Progressive Rock" and would have significant success on Billboard’s Top Pop Albums and Singles charts twice – once during 1967-68 and again in 1972.
The Moody Blues’ record label Decca has just upgraded their state of the art recording to a technique they would deem "Deramic Sound" and created a subsidiary label –Deram Records—to exploit this new technology. The Moody Blues were Decca’s first choice to deliver the goods.
The songwriting and musicianship of the Moody Blues was fused with an orchestra. There was one other secret weapon that would define an unmistakable element of the band’s sound. Keyboardist Mike Pinder’s use of the mellotron was that weapon and it became a fixture on many recordings by other artists as well.
