MOONDOG: SNAKETIME SERIES
Original 12" grooved label, heavy vinyl LP with screen-printed cover, self-released on Moondog Records, matrix number MOON 1A/1B. Privately pressed, sold by Moondog himself on the streets of New York in the early 50s. Veeerry weird, amazing and unclassifiable music from this blind street musician/composer/instrument builder/poet/philosopher (click here for more info on Moondog), and a super-rare piece of music history! Less than 50 playable copies of this record are rumored to exist worldwide!
Moondog sings, recites poetry, plays his own percussion instruments plus piano, recorder etc. His wife Suzuko, their six-week-old daughter, his mother-in-law, and several other musicians also perform.
Also included is an original 4-page promotional folio featuring press clippings, photos, and a bio of Moondog. Not sure if this came with the original release or was put in the jacket later. Nevertheless, it's a great document and a nice collectible.
ITEM CONDITION

JACKET has some rubbing and wear, 3/4 split on top, 2/3 split on bottom. Spine and boards are still quite sturdy, and the unique silver screen printed art on the cover looks amazing!
VINYL has a number of hairlines and plays with slight surface noise, although some of that is no doubt due to the low-budget nature of this original pressing. There is one small U-shaped scratch that causes skips on track 5 of side I ("Big Cat"), and there are 2 or 3 skips on track 8 of side II ("Street Scene"). I listened to the entire record on my Rega P1, and other than those two spots this is a thoroughly good listen, the sound is very detailed, comfortably above the level of the noise even with headphones. It certainly sounds better than it looks!
