MOONSTONE s/t Rare Canadian Acid Folk Psych lp POKORA Listen!
1973/Canada/Kot’ai KOT-3003…..here’s an original pressing of this ultra rare Canadian folk psych lp. The cover is in solid condition with seam and corner wear, paper worn from bottom corners, light shelf wear, sticker stain top right corner, light staining, otherwise no splits or delete. The vinyl is in glossy VG to VG+ condition with light scuffs/scratches and plays out nice with light noise/crackle and the odd tick, there are no skips, sticks or other issues. I have recorded the complete lp being offered and have not altered the sound in any way. What you hear is what it is. Overall acceptable copy of this very rare lp. Moonstone released a completely left unnoticed LP on the private Canadian label Kot’Ai in 1973. On the first track, female singer Carolyn Maclead sounds like a cross between Vasthi Bunyan and perhaps Linda Perhacs. All tracks have delicate and gentle fingerpicking guitar. There’s one short instrumental based upon guitars only, “Fina’s Birthday Song”. Often the male vocals lead and there are nicely worked out vocal harmonies. “In Case”, “Cointreau” and “Relative Hoak” and the melancholic “Said Gently” (with piano only) does this with a definite West Coast feeling and harmony, at times close to Crosby,Stills, Nash & Young, performed with a similar gentleness as the other tracks. “Black Blind Light” is a bit more psychedelic, with flute and guitars improvisations. Last track, “Hope you can see” is the most melancholic song of the album, a track which can stand well against another favourite folkpsych track favourite of mine which I mentioned before in another review (of The Search Party, mentioning the similar track "All but this”), namely Jefferson Airplane’s "Coming back to me".
GRADING
MINT: I consider New Unplayed or Sealed items only.
M- or Mint Minus, very clean with clean visual appearance and sound, there may be a couple of light inaudible hairline scuffs or such and will be mentioned in the listing, a Mint- record looks and plays very clean. Same for the cover. Very clean with no delete or other issues.
EXCELLENT: still very collectable for most, visually and sonicly clean. A handful of light inaudible scuffs, or hairlines. Cover will be clean with little wear, or delete. No splits.
VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal wear, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much. Cover will have slight shelf wear, and or delete, minor split.
VG+ the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects.
