Very rare most influential Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness, cited by e.g. Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth to be one of his three most important metal records. This album went on to impact most extreme metal bands that followed during the 90s.

Morbid Angel's debut album Altars of Madness helped lay the groundwork for what we now call "old school" death metal. This album is an onslaught of evil, growled and satanic vocals, chaotic guitar leads and insane blast sections. If someone had asked me to summarize death metal with one album, I'd show them this.

Morbid Angel's debut is very fun to listen to and doesn't rely on always blasting or going at super fast speeds to grab your attention. A great example is the track "Maze of Torment", the intro guitar riff is enough to have me head banging as it along with the drums have a unique and groovy rhythm. I'd have to say it's my favorite guitar riff. But don't get me wrong, there is a ton of great blasting and fast guitar playing on this album, I just love how Morbid Angel is able to keep the mid tempo parts eerie and interesting. The guitar sound is highly distorted and has a screeching sound during the plenitude of wailing guitar solos. It mixes well with the eerie, evil and brutal sounding riffs on this album. The guitar sound really does capture the drifting into insanity and evil feeling that the album gives off. This is a great death metal album. 

The vocals are great as well, they don't end up overpowering the instruments and fit in nicely, they growls are great and clear, the vocalist is able to keep a consistent sound with them too, you don't hear his vocals break or his voice give in at all. I also like how the vocalist isn't afraid to enunciate what he's saying, the vocals are very clear, not that's it's a bad thing to have guttural unintelligible vocals, like a lot of brutal death metal that I love has, but the clear vocal style works well here.

In conclusion, this would be a great album to listen to if you are just getting into death metal, or for some reason, haven't heard Morbid Angel yet. Of course, it may seem a little dated by today's standards in regards to the production being a little quiet in my opinion, But the dated production is not a major flaw for me. If you're trying to rock out and headbang to some quality, chaotic old school death metal, Morbid Angel has you covered with "Altars of Madness".Taken from: Metal-archives.com

On offer here is a VERY rare LP (especially in this condition!!!!) by MORBID ANGEL called "ALTARS OF MADNESS" and is an ORIGINAL 1989 UK 1st Pressing on the 1st Press EARACHE label!!!!  THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!!!   JUST TRY AND FIND ANOTHER ONE!!!!  BACK IN 1989 WHEN THIS LP WAS FIRST RELEASED - IT ONLY EVER SOLD IN ABSOLUTELY TINY AMOUNTS AS MOST PEOPLE WOULD OPT FOR T THE FIRST PRESS CD VERSION, AND WAS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DELETED!!!!  AS A RESULT IT IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO LOCATE TODAY AS A FIRST PRESS PROPER!!!!  NOT ONLY THAT BUT THIS LP IS IN BRILLIANT CONDITION - AND CLEARLY HASNT BEEN PLAYED MUCH AT ALL!!!!  JUST TAKE A LOOK AT THE PICTURES!!!!  THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1989 UK 1ST PRESSING  AND HAS THE FIRST PRESS ONLY PROMOTIONAL  STICKER TO THE FRONT !! IT ALSO RETAINS THE ORIGINAL INNER SLEEVE WITH LYRICS IN GREAT CONDITION!! 

Vinyl: EX+ . They don't come any better than this unless you can travel back in time to the pressing plant. This vinyl has barely been played. It has no marks and just a couple of wispy paper sleeve removal traces only visible under a strong light. On replay it only gets better. Great strong stereo separation with near silent (no crackle etc.) replay. So much better than the CD! Needless to say this vinyl has no problems at all. NO jumps, NO skips, NO sticks etc.

Sleeve: VG++. Again this has to be seen to be believed. A properly looked after sleeve without much wear. The spine is fully legible. NO splits and NO tears, NO writing. This sleeve has a few light small creases!! There is nothing untoward like writing or stains. This has the original first press only promotional sticker to the front. The lyrics inner sleeve is again in EX condition but has a tiny tear on the opening. NO splits NO stains etc.

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! The next prog album to go completely through the roof. Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.
