MORLY GREY – The Only Truth. Sundazed LP 5349. FACTORY SEALED NEW VINYL 2-RECORD ALBUM SET. Originally issued in 1972 on the tiny Starshine label in an edition of 1000 copies, which included a poster (if you’re lucky enough to find it at all). This edition issued in 2010 as a 2-record set, digitally mastered from the original analog master tapes. Comes in a heavy board gatefold cover with a reproduction of the original poster insert. Includes 7 bonus tracks; 3 previously unissued studio tracks + both sides of their non-album 1970 debut single and 1971 single. MEMBERS: Tim Roller (all guitars, backing vocals), Mark Roller (bass, lead vocals), and Bob LaNave (drums, percussion, lead vocals side 2) with Paul Cassidy (drums, vocals sides 1, 3, & 4).

DESCRIPTION: From Alliance, Ohio (southwest of Youngstown, southeast of Akron), Morley Grey take a spiritual (rite of passage) journey through the angst and heartache of the late 60's, a right of passage and a youthful burst of inspiration; drummer Paul Cassidy, guitarist Tim Roller, and his brother Mark on bass, take you with them on a mystical jaunt though time and space with screeching guitar solo's, melodic bass runs, and frantic drum rolls. Over 35 years of continuous sales worldwide with copies of the original LP being auctioned at well over $800.00, it has been a rare collector's item. The last three songs (side 2) feature replacement drummer Bob LaNave. All the songs were written by Paul Cassidy and the Roller Brothers. Originally to be titled The First Supper, which would have included the three previously unissued bonus tracks as side 2, the original LP pressing of The Only Truth was released on the Starshine label in 1972 and came with a poster of what would have been the album cover for The First Supper. This great rock record is one of those amazing classics that you (most likely have) never heard, wish you did, and then wonder why you have not. The music sounds unexpectedly advanced considering the tracks were committed to tape in 1972. You will hear rock, psychedelic sounds reminiscent of The Doors and Jimi Hendrix, and jazz-rock fusion, like on the track Our Time. For a trio, their sound was an electrifying full exciting new sound that was just starting to make its way into the consciousness of young adventurous musicians. Bands like this jump-started the beginning of many major changes in music. The title track, which is a flat out progressive rock tour de force running over 17 minutes long, brings you full circle from a rocking entrance, to a spaced out eerie middle section, then to a meaningful powerful ending. It sounds more like a formative free form track that develops and comes to a head like a musical eruption exploding from the core of their base sound. The group works very hard to maintain and expand this format in many of their songs. It comes as a shock that they did not continue to record after producing such a successful set of recordings. One never knows what the circumstances may have been at the time though. Thankfully, they left their ineradicable mark on early progressive rock with the recording of this album. SIDE BAR: Who Can I Say You Are backed with You Came To Me were issued as a single prior to the release of this album where upon the forthcoming album was listed as The First Summer along with a picture sleeve whose artwork would later comprise that of the poster included with the original release of The Only Truth. Original drummer, Paul Cassidy was fired or quite the group (depending on the source) after the recordings were done and Bob LaNave took his place. The group kept side one but recorded a new side two with the new drummer and also changed the album title after the new track The Only Truth, which incorporates the traditional tune When Johnny Comes Marching Home.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.
