Return of the Mack returns once again to mark 30 years since he first returned and laid down one of British r&b's defining moments. Mark Morrison's debut spent 38 weeks on the UK Albums Chart while the still inescapable title track spent two weeks at number one in the UK and became an international phenomenon. Amazingly, Morrison was the first Black male solo artist to top the UK singles chart in the 1990s. The album as largely self-produced over a two-year period and found its way into affections with the rough production edges that contrasted with the songwriting and Morrison's distinctive, warbling voice which was at the time described as "a funked-up Seal." Five Brit nominations, a Mercury Prize nod and a MOBO win followed. Well worth revisiting.
