MOSAIC MQ6-165 ILLINOIS JACQUET 'The Complete Sessions 1945-50'
A long-deleted 6LP Mosaic set which collects together all the titles JACQUET recorded for Aladdin, ARA, Apollo, Savoy and RCA Victor 1945-50, a time when he was at his most popular and probably most prolific. The sidemen involved include many musicians then active at the cutting edge of the music as the swing era gave way to bebop. They include: EMMETT BERRY/JOE NEWMAN/ RUSSELL JACQUET/MILES DAVIS/FATS NAVARRO (tp); TRUMMY YOUNG/J.J.JOHNSON/HENRY COKER (tb); LEO PARKER (bar); SIR CHARLES THOMPSON; CHARLES MINGUS (b); and SHADOW WILSON/JO JONES (d). MOSAIC have also managed to unearth 2 previously unissued tracks plus as well as tracking down difficult to find alternate takes. (Full track/personnel listing on request.) The 6LP set contains the usual high quality vinyl and booklet with full discographical details, high-resolution photographs and detailed notes on the performances.
CONDITION/DESCRIPTION: the discs are EtoE+ (VG+toVG++) with a few very light scratches, visible under a bright 'grading' light. On side B of disc 3 there are a few very small light surface marks. The box is E+ (VG++), 'as new' apart from very slight corner damage/surface rubbing. On the back in the top right hand corner, there is a small oblong sticky label.
