MOSS ICON / SILVER BEARING
" split "
ORIGINAL 1991 LIMITED EDITION split 12" LP on Vermin Scum Records!!!!
HANDMADE cover, with a lot of care put into the screenprinted art, the printed obi-strip-like insert, and the lyric sleeve housing the vinyl.
Their split LP with Silver Bearing. Vermin Scum's 11th release.
1991 Vermin Scum Records No. 11
You should look at the photographs to see the cover and insert.
This is a nice copy of an 18 year-old vinyl collectible. Luckily for you Moss Icon were local and they used to personally visit the store to furnish us with their goods, therefore we run by a copy of most every release every few months or so. You may have seen the copy of "Hate In Me" or the "Mahpiua" 7" that we're selling. This is from the same place:
This was owned by someone who was in a Vermin Scum band, and was friends with the guys in Moss Icon, so you can sleep knowing that this has been touched by at least one member of M.I.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL COPY OF THIS RECORD!
The cover, as you can hopefully see in the photos, is clean and has very little signs of wear. There are a couple of fingerprint smudges and that's about it. These covers were all handmade. They used heavy textured recycled paper, and silkscreened it with paint as well as stamping it with ink. The addresses for Vermin Scum and Hydraulic Pump Organ are stamped. It qualifies as a NM- in the Goldmine grading system.
As the silkscreening process is done individually, it's a very personal way to create a piece of art, and makes every copy a one-of-a-kind piece. So this one won't look exactly like any other.
There is a large skinny double-folded piece that is like an obi-strip. It has HPO info on it.
The inner sleeve that holds the vinyl has information and lyrics to the songs written on it. There are spots where some of the printing didn't show up, so on EVERY COPY THEY PRESSED, someone has handwritten individual letters and words in the band's lyrics and info.
The obi-strip thing has the same thing going on. Someone has corrected all of the words you can't read.
This was something that they put a LOT of time into.
A handmade item that a lot of care went into.
The vinyl has been played, lovingly. There are signs of play, but no marks that should result in any pops or skips. It looks VG+/EX

Moss Icon was an Annapolis, Maryland emocore band from 1986 to 1991. Its original members were singer Jonathan Vance, guitarist Tonie Joy, bassist Monica, and drummer Mark Laurence. Moss Icon is best known for its influence on the hardcore punk splinter genre known as "emotive hardcore" or emo, and its affiliation with the original bands formed in the so-called "Revolution Summer" of 1985, including Washington D.C.'s Rites of Spring and Embrace, and Maryland's The Hated.
The band's identifying characteristics, and those that distinguished them from their contemporaries, included noticeable and abrupt transitions from loud to quiet, Joy's distinct arpeggiated guitar (often undistorted and picked), and Vance's esoteric, sometimes meandering lyrical content. Earlier recordings of the band are reminiscent of early Joy Division, particularly in guitar style, while later songs embodied a less blunt approach, noted by some detractors as making Moss Icon "like Grateful Dead for punks." The band championed, among other issues, the plight of indigenous peoples of the Americas, and opposed the U.S. government's involvement in Nicaragua and Guatemala.
Moss Icon recorded their debut 7", "Hate in Me", in January 1988. Moss Icon's third 7", entitled "Memorial", was recorded in January 1991 along with a split LP with Silver Bearing.
After the dissolution of Moss Icon, guitarist Tonie Joy was a member of the bands Universal Order of Armageddon, Born Against, Lava, The Great Unraveling, and The Convocation Of.... (later rechristened The Convocation). Other band members were less involved in music, excepting Laurence's drums in Lava, DiGialleonardo's Blue Condors, and Vance's solo debut LP.

We are collectors and we want you to get your collectibles in the best condition possible, therefore, unlike many sellers on the great eBay
WE NEVER REMOVE VINYL FROM ITS SLEEVE AND LEAN IT AGAINST ANYTHING
nor do we
REMOVE THE VINYL RECORDS FROM THEIR SLEEVES & LAY THEM DOWN ON A SURFACE TO DISPLAY THEM.
We're rather amazed when we take the care that we do with the vinyl we sell, and then see another seller make more money selling the exact same item
in worse shape, and their picture shows the record out of its cover and out of its sleeve lying on a surface! I believe the "problem" is that we try to describe every item
in detail so that you'll know exactly what you're getting. Many sellers will simply say "excellent" "mint" or "great", having no idea what those terms mean in relation to the Goldmine Grading System. We tell you exactly what you're getting, and even if it's been to hell and back, we still treat it like it's a piece of your mother. Sometimes it's the detail that screws things up, I think. If we were vague, like most sellers, you'd just see the name of the band, the title, and a picture, and you'd buy it. Oh well.
Many sellers seem to have a disregard for the items they're selling and only care about making their pictures look pretty. We only care about the pieces we sell. And you. So you'll see that the records are displayed IN THEIR ORIGINAL SLEEVES, with just a hint of the vinyl showing so that you can see what color they are. If you want to see the vinyl pulled from its sleeve and resting on a dusty surface, look at someone else's auction or blog and then come back to our page and buy our copy in PERFECT SHAPE.
