Underrated Seattle grunge icons Mother Love Bone have one of the most limited and richest back catalogues of any band to come out of the North West United States. Their brevity is understandable given the tragedy they faced. Just a few days before their debut album Apple - the follow-up to their EP 'Shine' - was released via Polydor, their singer Andrew Wood died, resulting the break-up of the band. He was only 24-years-old. The surviving band members honoured his legacy and continued their journey as musicians . Among the most formidable is the achievements of guitarist Stone Goddard and bassist Jeff Ament, who co-founded Pearl Jam. Mother Love Bone, however, deserve all the plaudits they get with their unique sound that draws on the likes of Janes Addiction/Faith No More/Led Zeppelin but takes the listener to realms they've never been before. A stunning band who would doubtlessly have carried on for decades had they not been beset by tragedy.
