The Avant-Garde Breakthrough: Unplayed 1967 First-Press Promotional Archive Copy
Following the explosive debut of Freak Out!, the Mothers returned in 1967 with Absolutely Free—a blistering, continuous two-suite assault combining Stravinsky quotes, biting political satire, and avant-rock complexity. Early promotional pressings of this release are notoriously hard to find in clean condition, as the vast majority of copies were heavily played at counterculture radio stations or college dorms.
-
The Provenance: Shipped straight to the New York Post music editorial desk in mid-1967 and archived immediately without seeing turntable play.
-
Vinyl Condition: Immaculate Near Mint. The vinyl surfaces are deeply black, exhibiting intense factory high gloss. No hairline scuffs, zero sleeve abrasions, and perfectly preserved dead wax run-outs.
-
Jacket Condition: The dramatic black-and-white gatefold jacket retains exceptional rigidity, showing only light edge wear and microscopic corner softening from five decades in careful storage.
An essential foundation piece for any definitive 1960s psychedelic and avant-garde rock archive.
