Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! Please note! This is sold for its collectability rather than for its condition. 1st UK pressing of Mott The Hoople "Mott The Hoople" Their Debut album released in 1969 on the pink Island Records labels. Note This is the original not a reissue exceptionally rare and very scarce to find. It has always been stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records. Visually the vinyl looks played but just minimal times in my opinion. Just a feint trace of a hand full of spider traces on one side around the spindle hole. This is complete with the 1st UK issued un laminated gatefold cover in excellent condition with light rubbing/storagewear with age only. The audio is very clear and vibrant and this plays through without distortion. 6 light isolated static ticks/pops were heard only at the outro to the last track on to the run off groove side two worth to mention but doesn't really effect the main audio in my opinion. Any other static/ticks heard was isolated, perhaps in between tracks and very quiet places only really heard on side one. Side two played through superbly on my systems very clear and vibrant through out and very enjoyable scarce copy. Please listen to the full recording in the player below. I would grade the audio at least excellent to excellent plus for the most part in my opinion.
Mott the Hoople is the debut studio album by the band of the same name.
It was produced by Guy Stevens and released in 1969 by Island Records in the UK (cat. no. ILPS 9108), and in 1970 by Atlantic Records in the US (cat. no. SD 8258).
Stevens, the group's initial mentor and guide, wanted to create an album that would suggest Bob Dylan singing with the Rolling Stones.
This was partially achieved, with the album including several Dylanesque cover versions along with aggressive rock originals.
Years later, vocalist Ian Hunter - who had only just joined the band prior to Mott the Hoople's recording and had yet to play live with them - would insinuate, in an August 1980 Trouser Press magazine interview, that the Stones' 1971 track "Bitch" bore more than a passing resemblance to this album's "Rock and Roll Queen." (Both songs are in the key of Am, and use the pentatonic scale.)
An instrumental version of The Kinks' "You Really Got Me" introduces the album, though a vocal version was recorded and is available on Mott's compilation relea
Doug Sahm's "At the Crossroads" (originally recorded by Sahm's Sir Douglas Quintet in 1968) and Sonny Bono's "Laugh at Me" (originally issued by Sonny & Cher on their second full-length album in 1966, but without vocals from Cher) are suitably reminiscent of Bob Dylan, as is Hunter's "Backsliding Fearlessly."
Initial copies of the album were wrongly pressed with the song "The Road to Birmingham," the B-side of their debut single at the end of side one, with "Backsliding Fearlessly" replacing "Rock and Roll Queen" at the start of side two.
The album's cover is a colorized reproduction of M. C. Escher's lithograph "Reptiles." In an interesting coincidence considering Guy Stevens' desire for Mott to sound like the Rolling Stones, in early 1969 Mick Jagger had approached Escher wanting to commission a painting for the cover of the Stones' upcoming album Let It Bleed; Escher declined the request.

The vinyl The vinyl visually looks superb and looks like it had only ever been played a few times only before I have just play tested it just before this listing. The vinyl is flat and free of any warping and is the thick and heavy type of original vinyl. Note: I notice one very small mark/scratch at the very end of side two where it looks like a needle has been dropped at this point which causes some light pops at the outro to the very last track on side two. Any other marks/scratches noted would be mainly sleeve removal surface marks. Importantly, No needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops during the main audio.
The Audio This plays through absolutely lovely and enjoyable throughout. This plays without any skips or jumps. Clear and very vibrant audio quality. No loud constant clicks or pops. Any static heard would be in between tracks only, remember that this is 51 years old and in exceptional condition for its age. The Audio is graded at least excellent to excellent plus for the most part in my opinion! (light static/crackle/ticks and interference noted and at the outro to the run off on last track side two as described to mention) Side two plays through superb on my systems and sounds absolutely stunning clear and very vibrant. Audio graded at least excellent to excellent plus for the most part in my opinion.

The record sleeve This is the original poly lined sleeve. no edge splits or tears. Light fading/browning/creasing with age. This is the original.
The Cover This is the original 1st issue Island un laminated gatefold cover! The cover has no splits or tears. No real nasty creases worth to mention. Light rubbing noted at the spine and edges with age. Any other marks or scuffs you have to look to notice in my opinion. I would grade this cover Excellent.
