Mr.Fox'ssecond and final album was lively British folk-rock from the halcyon days of that genre. They lacked the one or two vocal or instrumental personalities that would have lifted them to the Fairport Convention/SteeleyeSpan/Pentangle level, but anyone who likes the early 1970s recordings of those bands will like this too. The group really shone when they favoured the moodiest material and let a spooky drone come to the fore, as on the lengthy opener, "Mendle," where the unnervingly shrill organ and Carole Pegg's vocals established an uneasy yet seductive atmosphere. It should be said, though, that it was an admirably diverse album as well, with sparsely arranged numbers that sound much like gypsies of centuries-old vintage, more straight forward and modern folk-rock treatments of traditional songs, and the upbeat finale "All the Good Times," where the Gridley Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra join in on the chorus.

Important note:

although this was reissued as part of the apparent two-for-one CD of their two early1970s albums on Transatlantic, that release is missing "Mendle"-- a vital omission, as that's the best track on The Gipsy. Don't despair, however, as all of the songs, "Mendle" included, are on this original gatefold LP.

If you are looking at this auction I'm sure you will know all about it's history and the impact it had in 1970. I purchased this record new in my youth and it has been played quite a bit since.

The vinyl is good ,the cover and the vinyl looks amazing for a record of it's age. The sleeve is in good condition, (see below) the artwork is bold and sharp, scuffing to the edges, only very small scuffs at the corners.

Record: I'm not sure how to grade this vinyl, it is excellent however there is some small noise that can be heard in the quieter sections. I have just played this record and it really looks and sounds fantastic, it sounds crystal clear and sharp. Apart form the quieter sections it sounds clear and sharp, there are a few surface marks, a very good copy of this record. Some very haunting tracks on this exceptionally rare album.

Outer Cover:  Excellent. The un-laminatedsleeve is in good condition with only some small scuffs on the corners and sides. The spine is sharp and clean.The inner 'clear' sleeve is very good and clean, but it has become detached from the gatefold. There are no unwanted marks or labels. Overall the cover is excellent.

I have probably made this record sound not as good as it actually is, I do not want you to bid if you are wanting a mint copy, this is not mint. It's very very listen-able to and the majority of the tracks sound fantastic, clear and sharp as the day it was recorded, but there are some small blemishes.

I am not a record dealer, I am selling part of an extensive collection of interesting and rare vinyl collected during my youth. I will be adding many more very rare vinylLP's over the next weeks.

Identifying each recording is not easy, but I have tried to be as accurate as I can be. Please forgive any mistakes and please let me know if I get anything wrong.

Please note and take in consideration that vinyl records although perfectly playable do not have the same quality sound as today’s modern CDs, they tend to have a much richer sound, but there is inevitably some back ground 'noise'

All my records are of good playable quality but should be properly cleaned before playing.

You should bare in mind that these vinyl records are many years old and will thus not be in pristine condition, they were not produced yesterday.

For safety all my records will be well packed in LP mailer envelope with packers and posted 'signed For', hence the slightly higher packing and postage costs.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERYGOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surfacemarks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR:The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properlyand displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR:The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
