Hard rock and heavy metal band Mötley Crüe started their career in 1981, when the debut album was released. This year the band celebrated that 45th anniversary with the release of a box set packaging up the first five albums together. Calling it 'Crücial Crüe', it came out earlier this year on CD, standard black vinyl, splatter colored vinyl (each album a different color combination), as well as each album on picture disc.
Most of these were previously released on pic disc for their 35th anniversary. But those collectibles came in a clear PVC jacket with hype stickers. To make this bundle of the most successful Crüe albums ever made extra special, they add the original jackets and inner sleeves! Looking as sharp as when they could be purchased in the 80s, each one includes the jacket and the inner sleeve, with more pics, credits, and song lyrics.
On 'Shout At the Devil', the Crüe's second LP, the band began their quest for world domination. They had a hit video with "Live Wire" played frequently on MTV and rock radio, from the debut album. By the time 'Shout' hit the streets, the Crüe were invited to open up for Ozzy, and the rest is, as they say, rock and roll history. (RIP Ozzy. We miss you already!)
The big hit, and consequently the first single from 'Shout at the Devil', was a song called "Looks That Kill". It was in heavy rotation on MTV and rock radio. People got to see the wild leather and chains style that the band perfected. The glam/hair metal phase was just over the horizon, but this Crüe, the hungry and hard working Crüe, was taking it all to the next level.
Today we look back at Mötley Crüe and their sophomore release titled 'Shout At The Devil', and the 45th anniversary edition of that vintage 80s classic. From the 'Crücial Crüe' box set. These titles in their orginal jackets and inner sleeves aren't sold separately, so grab it while you can!
All five of these pic discs I have up for sale come straight from the box set. I picked up a couple of boxes when they first came out, and I'm saving one. I unwrapped this one to take pics, and handled each album with gloves (so no fingerprints). The jacket is the first version, and you have to turn it a certain way to see the pentagram (see pics). The color pics inside the gatefold actually became the cover after a while. The pentagram made one more appearance on album number three's cover ('Theatre Of Pain'), then disappeared forever...
