Description

Ultrarare original private pressing from Holland in the experimental/drone/psychedelic vein. The sleeve is in excellent(+) condition and the record is near mint.

The PRIVATE DUTCH encyclopedia reads the following about this obscure album:
The history of M.U. (Rotterdam) is surrounded by a semblance of mystery, comparable to the mysteriousness surounding the lost continent in the pacific, from which the band derived it's name. M.U. was formed in the seventies by Peter Graute. Peter started his musical career as a salesman of records. In 1976 he opened his own shop, 'Backstreet'; the shop developed into the magical centre of the punk years.
Despite the fact that he was a good musician himself, his contribution was a passive one in the beginning. Peter produced bands who recorded on his own Backstreet/Backlash-label and he also did some promotional activities for bands he liked.
As punk was slowly dying out in 1980, the rumour arose, that Peter was rehearsing with a band of his own. This turned out to be true, but his band decided not to perform before the sound was perfect; in order to achieve this, the group (M.U.) rehearsed for almost six years.
M.U. rarely performed (in half dark doomy atmosphere) but delivered an exceptional album in 1981, titles "Motion in tune"; the last release on the Backstreet/Backlash label. Peter's self-willed guitar playing, influenced by his guitar hero's Ronnie Hawkins, Eric Clapton, T-bone Walker, John Hammond, Tom Verlaine and also containing some elements from the 'Chess'-school, carries the sound of the band. Peter never dealt with trends and styles, but for him the guitar was and is the most eminent rock & roll-instrument.
The music played by M.U. (Mentally Unfit) is spun out, the tracks have a well-balanced construction, consisting of preamble, elaboration and climax. The nervous execution of singer Peter Mensing (ex-Black Slack) contrasts strongly with the sophisticated musical patterns, but this contrast revives the whole thing.
The LP contains 9 experimental pieces of rock, with a psychedelic twinkle. M.U. still exists and has plans to release some new material in 1994.
