You get the first two 12" vinyl releases by Mudhoney.  Their first 12" was a rather long EP and they followed it up months later with their self-titled full-length.  The version we're auctioning off is STILL SEALED in its original shrinkwrap!  I'm not even sure what's really under that plastic wrap.  I know there's supposed to be a poster, but what color is the vinyl?  Is it black?  We have an open copy, but it doesn't have the poster, and I don't know if there were variations.  Let's just guess that it's probably black vinyl, and if it ends up being something else, you get a huge surprise!
The second record we're auctioning off is their first release.  Raw, recorded cheap and raggedy.  Just the way you want them to sound.  A little bit beat up.  The condition kinda matches the sound and feel of the record.  You're bidding on this auction because you're going to get a freakin' completely mint copy of their debut full-length.  You're excited about it because we're throwing in a companion record to make this a special experience.  Listenable, but not the copy to stop you on your quest for the holy grail of copies.  They're both pre-barcode Sub Pop vinyl.  Original two decades old rock 'n' roll.

Really, a used Superfuzz Bigmuff  on its own might cost you somewhere under $20.
To pair it up with a PERFECT, still sealed, obviously NEAR MINT (we say "near" because even though it's never been opened in its 20 years on earth, we can't claim with uncertainty to know its condition)(but we guarantee it's MINT!)

Mudhoney is an American band. Formed in Seattle, Washington in 1988 following the demise of Green River, Mudhoney has for the most of its recording career consisted of Mark Arm (vocals, rhythm guitar), Steve Turner (lead guitar), Matt Lukin (bass) and Dan Peters (drums). Mudhoney's early releases on Sub Pop—the "Touch Me I'm Sick" single and the Superfuzz Bigmuff EP—were very influential in the Seattle music scene, and helped inspire the dirty, high-distortion sound that would characterize grunge. They have found very little commercial success during their career, although have retained a cult following. They have inspired notable Alternative Rock musicians, most notably Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.

Mudhoney is the debut studio album by Mudhoney in 1989. It was their first full-length album after several singles and an EP (Superfuzz Bigmuff).  The song "Magnolia Caboose Babysh0t" is actually a cover of "Magnolia Caboose Babyfinger" by Blue Cheer, but the song is still credited to Mudhoney.

Superfuzz Bigmuff is the debut EP by the Seattle grunge band Mudhoney. It was released in October 1988 through record label Sub Pop. 

The album was named after two of the band's favorite guitar effects pedals, the Super Fuzz and Big Muff, which helped to provide the band's signature "dirty" sound. The cover artwork is a photograph of frontman Mark Arm (left) and guitarist Steve Turner (right) by photographer Charles Peterson.

The EP sold incredibly poorly (even by Sub Pop standards), however it has since been acknowldged as one of the seminal* records of the Seattle scene. In mid 2008 the EP charted at #25 on the UK Indie Album Chart, a peak for the EP, twenty years after its release. *(Please note that the word "seminal" has nothing to do with the nasty liquid "semen").

The quotes below give information that seem to second my info that this is one of the first pressing copies.  They pressed 1000 copies, and EVENTUALLY (this was a slow seller) repressed more on black vinyl, but the subsequent black copies had barcodes on the rear cover.

Well, it doesn't get much more iconic than this (until we get to Bleach...).  Mudhoney's first 12" vinyl.  The first pressing was of 1000 on black vinyl.  There was a later black pressing; the sleeve contained a bar code and the Sub Pop URL on the back.

GRADING STANDARDS from GOLDMINE

VERY GOOD PLUS / EXCELLENT:
Most collectors, especially those who want to play their records, will be happy with a VG+ record.

VG+ records may show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that don’t affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK, too, such as telltale marks around the center hole, so long as repeated playing has not misshapen the hole. There may be some very light ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable.

VG+ Covers should have only minor wear. A VG+ cover might have some very minor seam wear or a split (less than one inch long) at the bottom, the most vulnerable locataion.

VERY GOOD:
Many of the imperfections found on a VG+ Record are more obvious on a VG record. That said, VG records — which usually sell for no more than 25 percent of a an NM record — are among the biggest bargains in record collecting, because moost of the “big money” goes for more perfect copies. For many listeners, a VG record or sleeve will be worth the money.

VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail.

When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise won’t overpower the music otherwise. Minor writing, tape or a sticker can detract from the label. Many collectors who have jukeboxes will use VG records in them and not think twice. They remain a fine listening experience, just not the same as if it were in better shape.

VG covers will have many signs on human handling. Ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover, where the edge of a record would reside, is obvious; it may appear on all three sides, thought it won’t be obvious upon looking. Someone might have written on it or stamped a price tag on it, too.

GOOD/VERY GOOD MINUS:
Good does not mean bad! The record still plays through without skipping, so it can serve as filler until something better comes along. But it has significant surface noicse and groove wear. The label is worn and exhibits significant ring wear, heavy writing or obvious damage caused by tring to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably.

We're rather amazed when we take the care that we do with the vinyl we sell, and then see another seller make more money selling the exact same item
in worse shape, and their picture shows the record out of its cover and out of its sleeve lying on a surface!  I believe the "problem" is that we try to describe every item
in detail so that you'll know exactly what you're getting.  Many sellers will simply say "excellent" "mint" or "great", having no idea what those terms mean in relation to the Goldmine Grading System.  We tell you exactly what you're getting, and even if it's been to hell and back, we still treat it like it's a piece of your mother.  Sometimes it's the detail that screws things up, I think.  If we were vague, like most sellers, you'd just see the name of the band, the title, and a picture, and you'd buy it.  Oh well.

Many sellers seem to have a disregard for the items they're selling and only care about making their pictures look pretty.  We only care about the pieces we sell.  And you.  So you'll see that the records are displayed IN THEIR ORIGINAL SLEEVES, with just a hint of the vinyl showing so that you can see what color they are.  If you want to see the vinyl pulled from its sleeve and resting on a dusty surface, look at someone else's auction or blog and then come back to our page and buy our copy in PERFECT SHAPE.
