" BACK DOOR MAN / NEED YOUR LOVIN' "
Original 45 on the FONTANA RECORDS lable cat# TF 527 Vintage 1965
Here's a cool Bluesy Beat single that Ian Mclagan masterminded with his Moddy band, before he took the place of Jimmy Winston in The Small Faces.
It's a sterling recording, covering the enigmatic blues giant HOWLIN WOLF track.
Well he hadn't long before been in Britain and Europe on a blues tour, and no doubt the impact of his brilliant performances set quite a stir and a buzz!
Good timing then, to issue one of his standout classic tracks - and BACK DOOR MAN is certainly that! An original track is on the flip, making for quite a collectible single.
It didn't sell well at all, as there were several other high-profile acts serving up blues at The Flamingo, Crawdaddy, Ricky-Tic and Marquee clubs.... plus it was a big time for Merseybeat still. However it slipped through the cracks, it's a worthwhile release that shows a young talented band trying their hand - and long before The Doors covered the same tune.
The vinyl is in VG- condition, an okay playing copy that's loud and clear. There are several surface general scuffs, and a scratch on the 'A' that plays through okay. Visibly it has seen a bit of life and perhaps been without a cover at some point, but it's a tough single (so worthy if you aren't insistent on a NM copy).
The label is VG from handling, with no writing or stickers
