MUSIC AT MILLBROOK - 1967 - The Glee Club, Choir and Octet - The Underground Generation, Peter's Progeny - Organ, Harpsichord and Vocal Solos - James M. Park, Director - Custom Pressed by RPC recorded Publications Company, Camden NJ.
An absolute oddball - mixed in with four tracks of fairly straight high school band/recording/choir stuff, there are two crazed sections of psychedelic and garage music. Side one starts with a wild organ driven/doorsesque snot punk bunch of what I think are all originals - I have never head Right Time Mama, Smoke Ring Woman or Imagination before anyway. Right Time Mama is my favorite, with its ripoff of Tombstone Blues lyrics and super snotty vocals, but all songs have something to recommend them. Then comes a normal glee club section, and then comes what I assume are Peter's Progeny - a teener garage band doing crunchy, enthusiastic versions of Little Black Egg, Til the End of the Day, and Tobacco Road. Side two is more ordinary high school musicianship, but side one makes the head spin. Released by RPC (who else?). Check the needle drops below to hear bits of all the garage and psych songs.
Unfortunately this record is in pretty rough shape. Side one, which is the "good side" is fortunately the better of the two, but it's still pretty rough, VG- with several shallow surface marks - plays through with no skips for me, but noise is pretty consistent - the garage kids (track two below) fare better fidelity wise than the Underground GEneration (track one). Side two, the straight music side, has some very deep scratches and is no better than G. The jacket is also VG- at best, with six inch split at top, eight inch split at the bottom, black stains on the front (don't even know what they are, probably ink) and some black discoloration on the back.
