ITEM Death & Destiny EP on Street Beat records. This 12" has the matrix number of LAMP 2. This EP together with the self titled Angel Witch LP pretty much defined the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Condition- Record is Excellent- Minor marks but a very pleasent play with minimal noise. Cover is Very Good +; the sleeve of course shows wear because of its black nature with wear pretty limited to the edges. No Seam splits.
DESCRIPTION : Self financed, Death and Destiny was recorded at Guardian Studios in England by John Roach - lead guitar, Peter Melsom - bass, Maurice Bates - guitar, Vince High - vocals, Barry Hopper - drums and produced by Terry Gavaghan. Mythra were acknowledged by Lars Ulrich as an early Metallica influence - compare the style of Death and Destiny with 'Kill 'Em All'. Influenced by Black Sabbath and so called first generation 'heavy rock' groups. At the tail end of the 1970's Mythra were swimming against the Punk Rock tide to satisfy the legions of rock fans in the North East of England who didn't subscribe to the claim that Heavy Metal was dead. When other bands called it a day, Mythra, with their youthfull arrogance, decided to take a leaf out of the 'New Wave' book and release their own record. Geoff Barton, of the influencial British Music weekly 'Sounds', was quick to spot the Mythra potential and his recommendation started the demand that kept Death and Destiny in the Alternative Chart for 12 weeks. Following in their wake, it wasn't long before a tide of new 'Heavy Metal' releases issued from the two North East studios of the time, the 'brand new' Gaurdian and the established Impulse Studios - this prompted the 'Sounds' tag NWOBHMNED or New Wave of British Heavy Metal - North East Division. DEFINITIVELY ONE OF THE HOLY GRAIL OF NWOBHM !!
