From album Erotica ('92), it begins with a "put-a-record-on scratchiness" sound that mimics a record player, contains spoken word vocals & is an ode to S&M with Madonna using a pseudonym of "Dita" (an homage to Dita Parlo, a German actress who was known for "not caring what people thought". She invites her lover to be passive while making love to her & leads him to explore boundaries between pain & pleasure. Slant Magazine described the lyrics as "taunting, aggressive - an elaborate exploration of sex, from seduction to disease." It peaked at #3 on the USA Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart & peaked in the top 10 in countries including New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden & the UK.

Survival from album, Bedtime Stories ('94), conveys a loosely drawn narrative of the punishment Madonna endured from the media & her feelings leading up to the album release. It has a lyrical allusion to the singer's '86 single, Live to Tell, with double-tracked strong vocals & harmonies. In the song, Madonna enhanced the rhythmic sounds more & compressed the bass sounds, to cater to the then musical trend. Bad Girl is from album Erotica ('92). Lyrically, it describes a woman unhappy with her life, because she believes she is behaving badly due to overwhelming sadness since the end of a romantic relationship. Critics described it as riveting & tragic, while also applauding the sophistication & overall message of the song. It reached #36 on the USA Billboard Hot 100 & #10 on the UK Singles Chart.

Fever is a “cover” song from album Erotica ('92). Madonna changed the composition of the original by adding drum rhythms, accompanied by a beatbox sound. Removing the chord progression of the original, she introduces original lyrics. It was never officially released as a single, but managed to become a dance hit & her 15th  song to hit #1 on the USA Billboard Hot Dance Club Play.

Nothing Really Matters is from album Ray of Light ('98). Experimenting with different musical genres, it includes ambient music & electronic noise frequencies. Lyrically, it delves on the singer's 1st daughter Lourdes & also themes of selfishness, affection & motherhood. Critics declared it 1 of Madonna's most personal efforts.
