Description
The artwork features a promotional photograph of Rosanna Arquette and Madonna from their 1985 comedy-drama film, Desperately Seeking Susan.
Officially released worldwide on July 15, 1985, the track served as a massive commercial success internationally. It went on to become Madonna's very first number-one single in the United Kingdom, where it remains her best-selling single of all time.
To avoid over-saturating the market and taking attention away from her Like a Virgin album, Warner Bros. Records decided not to release it as a standalone commercial single in the United States. Instead, it was issued as the B-side to the 12-inch maxi-single for "Angel". Because it lacked its own commercial A-side release, it was ineligible to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time. However, the combined "Angel/Into the Groove" release still easily topped Billboard's Dance Singles Sales chart.
