Formed in 2002 in Washington, D.C., Magrudergrind is a powerhouse of modern extreme music, serving as a vital bridge between the raw, DIY ethics of powerviolence and the technical precision of grindcore. Consisting of a core trio—vocalist Avi Kulawy, guitarist Casey Moore, and drummer Chris Moore—the band emerged from the fertile D.C. punk scene with a sound that was relentlessly fast, politically charged, and refreshingly devoid of the "tough guy" posturing often found in metal. Their early releases were characterized by a lo-fi, "no-budget" aesthetic that prioritized speed and intensity over production value.
The band’s turning point came in 2009 with their self-titled full-length album, produced by Kurt Ballou (of Converge) at GodCity Studios.
