Mahler Song of the Earth Reiner RCA Living Stereo 2 LPs
Maureen Forrester and Richard Lewis with Fritz Reiner conducting the Chicago Symphony perform Gustav Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” (“Song of the Earth”)”. Also included is a performance of Haydn’s “Symphony No. 88”. A two record set, this is a US stereo pressing on the RCA Living Stereo Label (LSC-6087-1/2). The labels are red with silver lettering, a groove and a shaded dog logo. There is a prominent scuff (spindle mark?) at the end of side three, but this does not sound, and apart from a few other minor marks, the records are of excellent appearance, and play and sound superb with occasional low-level surface noise. The box has rubbed on the top and there are splits along the sides – both top left, and bottom right-hand corner - and also one on the back left-hand edge for about a third of its length.
